Skanska Partners with FlatironDragados for Major Upgrades at LAX, Enhancing Infrastructure in California
Skanska to Upgrade Roadways at LAX
In an ambitious initiative aimed at improving the infrastructure of one of the busiest airports in the world, Skanska, in partnership with FlatironDragados, has secured a significant contract for roadway upgrades at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX). This joint venture has signed an agreement with Los Angeles World Airports, marking the first phase of the Airfield and Terminal Modernization Program (ATMP).
The total value of the contract is approximately USD 323 million, with Skanska's share coming in at USD 178 million, which is around 1.8 billion SEK. This amount will be reflected in Skanska's order bookings for the third quarter of 2025. The scope of this extensive project includes crucial bridge construction that incorporates various substructure elements. In addition to this, the project entails the demolition and removal of existing structures that may interfere with the upgrades.
As part of the improvements, Skanska will also be responsible for the installation of temporary and permanent storm drain systems, including manholes, headwalls, junction structures, and utility relocations. These enhancements are intended to create a more efficient and accessible roadway system to accommodate the increasing traffic flow expected at LAX.
Construction work has already commenced, with expectations set for completion by the fourth quarter of 2026. This project not only promises to modernize the airport’s infrastructure but also aims to enhance passenger experience, playing a vital role in supporting the growth of air travel in California.
Los Angeles International Airport serves as a gateway for international travel, and the need for upgraded facilities is crucial in maintaining operational efficiency and safety. The improvements led by Skanska are set to enhance this vital transportation hub significantly, which plays a crucial role in both the local and global economy.
The collaboration between Skanska and FlatironDragados highlights a commitment to addressing the infrastructure demands that accompany the growing needs of the aviation industry. With air travel on the rise and its growth trajectory showing no signs of slowing, projects like these are critical in ensuring that airports can accommodate the demands placed upon them.
