Vaughn College's Sixth Annual International Conference Explores Global Digital Technologies and Their Applications

Vaughn College's Sixth Annual International Conference on Digital Technologies and Applications

On October 9 and 10, Vaughn College proudly hosted the sixth installment of its International Conference on Digital Technologies and Applications (ICDTA) in Queens, New York. This year's event emphasized digital technologies, soft computing, and intelligent systems, exploring their profound impact on various sectors of society. Researchers, academics, and industry pioneers from over 30 countries participated both in-person and online, fostering a vibrant exchange of ideas that bridged theory and practical application in the field.

The conference aimed to act as a bridge between cutting-edge engineering and real-world business applications, attracting experts and attendees from around the globe. According to Dr. Sanaa Faquir, an assistant professor at Vaughn and the conference moderator, this event notably enhanced Vaughn College's international academic reputation and provided students an invaluable opportunity for professional development.

Dr. Faquir stated, "Hosting the conference at Vaughn College significantly elevated the institution's global academic presence while providing students with invaluable professional growth." By convening leading researchers and industry figures directly on campus, the college fostered essential collaborations and opened avenues for future partnerships and research funding opportunities.

The conference featured two plenary sessions on its first day. In the morning, attendees were engaged with insights from Wayne J. Levin, the CEO of Predictum Inc., and Dr. Philip Ramsey, the Vice President of Data Science and Training at Predictum. They shared critical analysis on how insufficient research costs the U.S. billions annually, discussing the importance of addressing this issue moving forward. The session concluded with a presentation by Dr. Kaoutar El Maghraoui, a principal research scientist at IBM, who discussed the nuances of efficient large language model (LLM) inference, shedding light on how AI generates outputs without altering the model's learned parameters.

The afternoon session continued the momentum with Dr. Lobna A. Said from Nile University explaining how hardware-efficient FPGA accelerators can enhance machine learning efforts, particularly in time-series analysis. Subsequently, Dr. Amir Toliyat from the City University of New York’s College of Staten Island highlighted the significance of responsible AI application in marketing decision support.

A significant feature of this year's conference was the inclusion of both in-person panels and online participation. Attendees were able to engage in discussions covering a wide array of topics such as AI's influence on healthcare, business strategies, education methodologies, and various sectors such as supply chain operations and energy management. Furthermore, oral sessions on October 10 delved deeper into digital workplace transformations and the ongoing integration of AI across numerous fields.
