Exploring the Essence of True International Aid: A Talk Show in Tokyo

On June 27, 2025, a significant event will take place in Tokyo at the GOLDEN EGG Incubation Space, where two experts in the field of international cooperation, Kanta Hara and Yuki Tabata, will hold a talk show titled "Water of Life in a Land of Hunger: What True International Aid Is." This engaging event offers a rare opportunity to delve into the frontline realities of international aid and the deeply human questions it raises regarding peace and survival.

This talk show is being held to celebrate the release of Yuki Tabata's first book, which will hit bookstores nationwide on June 17, 2025. During the event, Tabata will share behind-the-scenes stories about his experiences in the Global South and the process leading up to his publication. Kanta Hara, a freelance international cooperation specialist who contributed to the book's blurb, will join him on stage. Participants can expect an intimate and honest conversation, addressing pressing questions such as "Why Africa now?" and "What does it mean for Japanese people to provide assistance?" The session will also include a lively Q&A segment, allowing attendees to engage meaningfully in this critical conversation.

The Karamoja region in northeastern Uganda is one of the most underdeveloped areas in the country, grappling with severe hunger and poverty. In Koteido County, about 60% of the population faces critical food shortages, with over 1,600 fatalities linked to hunger and related diseases reported in 2022 alone. Despite the dire circumstances, Yuki Tabata has been profoundly affected by the stark reality of starvation claiming lives. However, driven by the belief that "no matter how tough the circumstances, we must not give up on peace," he continues his work in the field.

Conflicts persist in various regions around the globe, including Ukraine, the Congo, and Myanmar. Is the dream of global peace simply a utopia? Kanta Hara and Yuki Tabata aim to confront these fundamental questions of peace directly, sharing their candid thoughts and experiences that transcend national boundaries and societal norms.
