What is the Radio Rising Artist of the Year Award?

The new category, Radio Rising Artist of the Year, will be introduced at the MUSIC AWARDS JAPAN 2026 ceremony to honor artists who have been widely promoted through radio. This recognition is not just based on a panel of judges but also reflects the voices of dedicated radio DJs, directors, and producers who actively engage with the music scene and their listeners. Selection Process

Artists eligible for nomination must have officially released music digitally or physically for the first time since January 1, 2022. The selection will rely on the top 500 songs of radiko’s broadcast data. This process starts with an initial voting phase, where radio-related professionals will select three artists from the entry list. In this stage, voters can also support artists who may not be nominated but fit the criteria of newly emerging talent.

The awards culminate in a final voting round, where the top five artists selected in the earlier round will compete for the title. The artist receiving the most votes will be crowned the Radio Rising Artist of the Year.
