Kikkoman International Center Hosts Free Online Cultural Seminar on Mirin History

Free Live Cultural Seminar on Mirin History

On August 1st, 2026, at 14:00, the Kikkoman International Food Culture Research Center, in collaboration with Nagareyama Tourism Design Co., will host a free seminar titled "Completion of the Horikiri Family Document Catalogue: Current Research on Manjo Mirin History". This event will take place at the Nagareyama Shirou Mirin Museum and will also be streamed live on YouTube, allowing participants to join from anywhere.

Seminar Details

The seminar focuses on the historical significance of Nagareyama Shirou Mirin, which was established by the second-generation maker, Monjiro Horikiri, and gained popularity in the late Edo period. Since 2011, the Kikkoman International Center has been working on the preservation and analysis of a collection of documents donated by the Horikiri family. In March 2026, the comprehensive catalogue titled "Document Catalogue of Horikiri Family, a Nagareyama Shirou Mirin Brewer" was completed, summarizing the overall context of these documents.

During the seminar, attendees will learn about the details of these historic documents and the latest research developments in manjo mirin history. This event aims to enhance the understanding of these documents and foster a deeper analysis of brewing history and management stories through multiple perspectives.

Participants may join in-person at the museum, with a maximum capacity of 50 attendees (selection by lottery if over-subscribed) or watch the live stream on YouTube (registration required).
