A notable 45% of Gen Z candidates reveal that they find it particularly arduous to stand out amongst their peers. Despite the trend towards automation, candidates often find themselves lost in the chaotic assembly line of applications, as reported by 22% of candidates who have resorted to bots for applying. Remarkably, this practice is even more pronounced among Gen Z participants, where it jumps to 31%. The absence of defined hiring policies regarding AI usage from employers has further muddied the waters, resulting in 27% of candidates not being aware of any restrictions that might prohibit AI in the hiring process. The attitude towards AI's role varies by generation, with 21% of Gen Z believing that AI should be accepted irrespective of context.

The Pressures of Discrimination



The report also sheds light on the dark reality of discrimination in hiring practices. Over half (53%) of job seekers have reported facing illegal and discriminatory questions during interviews. Boomers appear to bear the brunt of this ageism, with 61% citing age-related bias, a stark contrast to the 11% of Generation Z. Furthermore, many individuals have felt compelled to modify personal and professional details to fit into a certain mold, with 57% of job seekers removing older experiences from their resumes and nearly 30% changing their names to secure interviews.

The Ongoing Ghosting Phenomenon



The trend of ghosting isn’t just confined to one side of the table. A troubling 63% of candidates reported being left without communication after interviews, with the experience being especially prevalent among Gen Z, who reported a 78% ghosting rate. On the flip side, a significant number of job seekers themselves are choosing to ghost employers, with half admitting to walking away mid-process. Among Gen Z candidates, three-quarters reported having followed through on this act, often influenced by receiving a more appealing job offer.
