Sacred Heart Preparatory Celebrates 25 Student-Athletes Joining Collegiate Sports
A Historic Year for Sacred Heart Preparatory's Athletics
Sacred Heart Preparatory (SHP) in Atherton, California, has made remarkable progress in its athletic department, sending an impressive number of student-athletes to compete at the collegiate level. This year marks the 20th consecutive year that the school has successfully placed at least 15 student-athletes into intercollegiate sports, with 25 graduates from the Class of 2026 signing commitments across 11 different sports.
SHP's athletic achievements during this academic year have been unprecedented, highlighted by securing 11 league championships and five Central Coast Section (CCS) titles, with more to come. The school has produced two NorCal championships and even clinched a State Championship, emphasizing the dual focus on both athletics and academics, as demonstrated by the eight CCS Scholastic Team honors awarded to this cohort of student-athletes.
According to Jason Armstrong, SHP Assistant Principal for Athletics, “This group of athletes has not only showcased incredible skills but also maintained high academic standards, making them exemplary representatives of our school.”
Baseball
SHP Baseball had a standout season, including a PAL Ocean Division championship and an impressive 11-game winning streak. Two senior stars are heading to the next level: Rallin Covey, recognized as a top prospect by Baseball America, will continue his journey at the University of Southern California, while Nico Pollioni, a two-sport varsity captain, will be joining Santa Clara University.
Boys' Basketball
After a historic season culminating in CCS, NorCal, and CIF State championships, SHP Boys' Basketball is sending Alex Osterloh, the CCS Player of the Year, to Claremont McKenna College, adding yet another decorated athlete to SHP’s legacy.
Boys' Lacrosse
The SHP Boys' Lacrosse team has consistently positioned itself amongst California's premier programs. This year, two talented seniors will be advancing to elite collegiate competitions: John Barnds, a USA Lacrosse All-American, will take his skills to Princeton University, while Andrew Shen will pursue his athletic career at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).
Girls' Lacrosse
The SHP Girls' Lacrosse team had an undefeated season, clinching WBAL and CCS championships and ranking as California’s number one team. Five exceptional seniors will be representing the Gators in college: Olivia Abbott, Ella Caplice, Katie Pepper, Skyler Schramm, and Lily Selcher, who will be playing at prestigious institutions like Stanford University, Scripps College, Dartmouth College, UC Berkeley, and Duke University, respectively.
Boys' Soccer
The Boys' Soccer team has also demonstrated excellence, sending Nathan Fox to Emory University and Calder Zirn to Stanford University after securing the WBAL championship.
Girls' Tennis
In Girls' Tennis, two decorated seniors will continue their journey at the collegiate level: Jasleen Chohan is headed to Bates College, while Charlotte Weber, a CCS Doubles Champion, will play for Georgetown University.
Track & Field
The Track and Field program marks another success, sending Maxime Morelle and Samora Stephens to Carnegie Mellon University and Scripps College, respectively, after significant achievements, including school records.
Girls' Volleyball
Following a successful WBAL championship season, Anabelle Yujuico is set to enhance her skills at Colorado College.
Boys' Water Polo
The Boys' Water Polo team, having secured their fifth consecutive CIF NorCal Regional Championship, will send five elite athletes to play collegiately, such as Charlie Baker, Clay Carrington, David Edelman, Oliver Marcin, and Murdoch Baker-Matsuoka, who will be attending prestigious schools like MIT, Harvard, and Princeton.
Girls' Water Polo
SHP Girls' Water Polo maintains a national ranking and will send standout athletes Ellison Brush and Casey Coleman to USC and Princeton, respectively.
Rowing
Additionally, Thor Dakin, a talented rower who showcased his skills outside the SHP athletics program, will further his education and rowing career at Brown University.
Armstrong concluded, “Our graduates carry with them invaluable experiences, friendships, and a sense of determination that we hope will serve them well in their future endeavors. All of us at SHP are incredibly proud of them, celebrating their achievements today and in the years to come.”
