Tokyo's Harakado Celebrates Mexico with a Vibrant Festival: HARAKADO MEXICO FESTA 2025

Celebration of Mexican Culture in Tokyo

Tokyo's Harakado recently hosted an incredible event, the HARAKADO MEXICO FESTA 2025, from September 13 to 15. This fantastic cultural festival was organized by AVOCADO, a Tokyo-based company dedicated to bringing the vibrancy of Mexican culture to Japan. Designed to coincide with Mexican Independence Day, this festival aimed to showcase the rich and diverse culture of Mexico through various engaging experiences.

This year marked the second edition of the HARAKADO MEXICO FESTA, and it was a resounding success. Attendees were immersed in a variety of activities, including spirited mariachi performances, traditional craft exhibitions, delicious authentic food and drinks, and interactive booths from travel and tourism companies showcasing Mexico.

One of the most notable aspects of this year's festival was the overwhelming popularity of tacos, particularly AVOCADO's exclusive festival tacos, which attracted long lines every day. This excitement highlighted the rising trend of modern Mexican cuisine in Japan, as guests were eager to experience the culinary delights Mexico has to offer.

Various organizations and companies rooted in Mexican culture participated in the event, including the Mexican Embassy in Japan, AeroMexico Airlines, HIS Mexico branch, and AB InBev Japan (Corona), among others. The festival successfully merged food, culture, and tourism, captivating a diverse audience ranging from young locals to foreign tourists.

AVOCADO views Harakado not just as a physical space but as a 'cultural communication medium.' They are committed to working with various organizations to continuously promote the beauty of Mexican culture throughout Japan.

Event Overview

The HARAKADO MEXICO FESTA was creatively crafted to present Mexico's culture through food, music, and tourism, inviting the audience to engage in a fun and fashionable modern Mexican experience. Over the three-day event, the Harakado food hall recorded approximately 4,500 transactions, affirming the growing interest and spending enthusiasm towards Mexican culture among attendees. Additionally, leading up to the event, it garnered significant media coverage, with 73 online mentions and a feature on J-WAVE radio.

Event Highlights

Vibrational Mariachi Experience

One of the standout attractions this year was the live mariachi performance, executed by the talented group, Mariachi La Fiesta. This unique performance style featured musicians roaming the venue, creating a lively atmosphere and allowing audience members seated further away to feel included in the experience.

Cultural Engagement Activities

The venue was adorned with traditional Mexican decorations, such as a playful face-painting station reflecting Día de los Muertos. The spirited ambiance allowed visitors to feel as if they had been transported to Mexico, fully immersing themselves in the vibrant cultural experience.

Successful Collaborations

Also returning this year was the collaboration with AB InBev Japan for the 'CORONA SUNSET HOUR,' a highlight that drew attention prior to the event. The festive atmosphere, coupled with the availability of Coronita and the newly launched CORONA CERO, resulted in over 600 bottles sold over the festival's duration. This success showcased the compatibility between Mexican culinary traditions and a relaxed lifestyle associated with Corona beer.

The festival attracted a wide audience, ranging from Mexican enthusiasts to both domestic and international travelers, concluding with tremendous acclaim.

Organizer's Remarks

Emi Yoshino, manager at AVOCADO, expressed gratitude for the support received from the Mexican Embassy representatives and other collaborating partners like AeroMexico Airlines and HIS Mexico. She noted that the festival exceeded expectations, with lines forming for the AVOCADO taco specials that consistently sold out each evening. Additionally, the collaboration with other tenants at Harakado enhanced the Mexican-themed decorations and face painting, making it a communal achievement in creating a vibrant atmosphere.

The event's accomplishments lay the groundwork for future endeavors that aim to continually share the allure of Mexican culture while offering diverse experiences from Harakado, Tokyo.
