ENGINEKO Presents Unique Contemporary Ceramics
On June 27, 2026, ENGINEKO will showcase its exciting ceramic art pieces at their first-ever pop-up store in Nakameguro, Tokyo, at the venue known as OPEN NAKAMEGURO. This marks a significant milestone for the contemporary art brand as they display their innovative creations to the public for the first time in Japan.
The exhibit features three remarkable pieces: the white "TSURIME-MUKU," the black "TSURIME-SEI," and the newly introduced "TSURIME-IRODORI." Each piece reflects the essence of "縁起" (Engi), which means good fortune, and serves as a physical representation of the connections we share in an increasingly digital world.
In today’s era, loneliness is becoming an alarming global issue, and social algorithms attempt to optimize connections among individuals. Against this backdrop, ENGINEKO challenges us to contemplate the existence of genuine, unengineered bonds. The brand posits that the concept of "縁" (en), difficult to translate into English, encapsulates an invisible connection that cannot be fully optimized.
The pieces are crafted from Seto clay, known for its rich heritage in Japanese pottery, and shaped by hand. Each creation undergoes a rigorous firing process at an impressive temperature of 1230°C, ensuring that every piece is unique, with a price of ¥55,000 (tax included).
The fine and singular craftsmanship of the pieces is a testament to the long-standing tradition of artisanship within the Seto region. Each item tells a story, embodying the raw and transformative power of earth and fire. Through the vision of ENGINEKO, these ceramic forms not only serve as decorative art but are also carriers of deep cultural significance.
An Invitation to Experience
From 11:00 AM to 6:00 PM on June 27, art enthusiasts and curious visitors can enter the pop-up free of charge. This event, titled
"hello, popup vol.33 RE:EN," promotes the theme of human interaction, cultural engagement, and material appreciation — a perfect match for ENGINEKO's philosophy.
Visitors will have the opportunity to interact with the pieces in person, feeling their texture and contemplating the visual and emotional essence of each creation. This popup is not just an exhibition but a sensory experience designed to connect people with the art and, ultimately, with each other.
