A-TOM ART AWARD 2025: Inviting Young Artists to Shine
The A-TOM ART AWARD, established by Atom Co., Ltd. and Tokyo University of the Arts, is now entering its eighth edition. With an aim to nurture emerging artists and invigorate community culture through art, the award is open for submissions from student artists nationwide. This year, the award theme is
"Humaning - Being Human".
Details of the Award
The A-TOM ART AWARD 2025 is accepting applications from students engaged in contemporary art across Japan. The selection process involves an initial round where artwork data will be assessed, followed by a final round featuring presentations from shortlisted candidates. A total of five winners will be chosen, and their works will be showcased in a group exhibition slated for November 2025.
Each recipient will receive a cash prize of
200,000 yen. Additionally, two winners will be selected for further opportunities: one will participate in an art program in a local city in 2026, and another will engage in an art initiative at Courtyard Hiroo.
Schedule of Events
The submission period begins on
June 23 and ends on
August 24 at
23:59. Following the initial selection, results will be announced on
September 19, leading to the final presentation for four selected candidates on
September 25. The winners will be publicly announced on
September 30, and a
public exhibition featuring the winning works will take place from
November 7 to 22.
Award and Prizes
Main Prize
- - Cash Prize: 200,000 yen
- - Group Exhibition: Winners will have their works displayed at Courtyard Hiroo during the exhibition period from November 7 to 22.
Courtyard Hiroo Award
Two winners from the list will also receive:
- - An opportunity to engage in an art program at Courtyard Hiroo in 2026. Various formats, including artist residencies and group exhibitions, will be discussed.
Local Awakening Award
Two winners will also be chosen to participate in:
- - An art program in a regional city in 2026, to further discuss the scope and content of their art contributions.

Judging Panel
The selection process will be overseen by a distinguished panel of judges, including:
- - Keiko Aso: Head Curator at Toyama Museum
- - Junji Ito: Art Critic and Project Planner
- - Yasuaki Kake: Professor at the University of Tokyo, specializing in interactive media research
- - Giacomo Zaganelli: Writer, Curator, and Activist
- - Kento Tanihara: Artist and Curator
These experts bring a wealth of experience and diverse perspectives from various fields to ensure that the award reflects the current trends and opens avenues for artistic dialogue.
Eligibility Criteria
Participants must meet the following conditions:
- - Be an active student artist in the field of contemporary art, irrespective of genre.
- - Have a valid student ID or belonging to an accredited educational institution able to issue an international student card.
- - Be prepared to present their work in Japanese during the final judging on September 25.
