Julien's Auctions to Hold Exclusive Bob Dylan Auction Featuring Al Aronowitz Archive in January 2025
Julien's Auctions to Celebrate Bob Dylan
On January 18, 2025, Julien's Auctions will host a unique auction titled 'Celebrating Bob Dylan: The Aronowitz Archive, T Bone Burnett & More' at the prestigious Musicians Hall of Fame Museum in Nashville, Tennessee. This highly anticipated event will showcase a collection of 60 exceptional items, 50 of which hail from the archive of famed journalist Al Aronowitz.
Among the auction's highlights are two typewritten pages featuring three drafts of the iconic song 'Mr. Tambourine Man', which are estimated to fetch between $400,000 and $600,000. Additionally, a rare oil painting of Bob Dylan from 1968 is expected to reach a value of between $200,000 and $300,000. Other notable artifacts include a 1963 brochure from Dylan's first major solo performance at Town Hall in New York City, vintage photographs, original sketches, and much more.
A special centerpiece of the auction is a unique Ionic Original recording of the newly produced version of 'The Times They Are A-Changin', created by Grammy-winning producer T Bone Burnett. This significant piece is anticipated to sell for a similar range of $400,000 to $600,000 and marks only the second public sale of an Ionic Original recording, following the successful auction of 'Blowin' In The Wind' in 2022.
Myles Aronowitz, the son of Al Aronowitz, shared reflections on his father's legacy, stating, 'My father was an incredible connector... He introduced Allen Ginsberg to Bob Dylan and Bob Dylan to The Beatles... The collection showcases my father's instinct for identifying and connecting with greatness.' T Bone Burnett also commented on the emotional experience of listening to Bob Dylan's rendition of his own song after sixty years, calling the Ionic Original the definitive version of this timeless classic.
In conjunction with the auction, a special exhibition will run from December 18, 2024, to January 17, 2025, at the Musicians Hall Of Fame Museum, featuring highlights from Al Aronowitz's collection. The auction itself will commence at 10 a.m. CT on January 18, 2025. Among the items to be displayed are a harmonica signed by Dylan, original typewritten lyrics of 'Mr. Tambourine Man', the 1968 oil painting, a Fender Telecaster guitar, a well-worn Levi's denim jacket from the film 'Hearts of Fire' (1987), and more.
This event provides a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for fans and collectors to own rare artifacts from Bob Dylan's illustrious career and the impressive archive of Al Aronowitz. For further information and a complete list of items up for bid, please visit the official Julien's Auctions website.
