First Mold Enhances Efficiency with Prototype Division Move and Expanded Production Capacity
First Mold Enhances Operational Efficiency
First Mold, a frontrunner in precision plastic parts manufacturing and rapid prototyping, is set to make significant changes to its operations in Zhongshan, China. The company has announced the relocation of its prototype division closer to its Gangkou Industrial Park facility to address various production inefficiencies exacerbated by the current layout.
The company, which first established its Dongsheng facility in 2010, is approximately 13.5 kilometers away from their main industrial park. This separation has led to operational challenges including delays in equipment deployment and prolonged technician commutes, affecting the overall productivity of the company. By shortening this distance, First Mold is anticipating a remarkable 90% utilization rate of its CNC machines, coupled with an expected increase of 10% in their production capacity due to the installation of new injection molding machines.
James Li, the General Manager of First Mold, emphasized that this move is crucial not only to optimize their operations but also to significantly cut costs for their clients, estimating potential savings of 5-8% along with faster cycle times.
Strategic Reorganization for Improvement
In the course of this strategic reorganization, First Mold will occupy a new facility boasting over 64,500 square feet of operational space, situated just 0.8 kilometers from the new industrial park. The relocation will facilitate the centralization of over 60 CNC machines and more than 20 3D printing machines, which were previously distributed across both facilities.
Li remarked, "Relocation is not the purpose; reorganization of manufacturing logic is the essence." This reconfiguration promises to reduce the commuting time for technicians to zero, enhancing efficiency and achieving a remarkable 80% reduction in the time required for deploying equipment. With these changes, First Mold aims to raise the CNC utilization rate beyond 90%, enabling sharper productivity and faster output.
Additionally, First Mold intends to close its Dongsheng facility and is committed to investing in cutting-edge equipment brands such as JSW, GF+, and Haitian. This investment is aimed at boosting their monthly production capabilities for precision injection molded components, further solidifying First Mold’s position as a leader in the plastic manufacturing sector.
