Dr. Moiz Master Takes Leadership as Chief Medical Officer at Piedmont Healthcare
Piedmont Healthcare is set to welcome Dr. Moiz Master as its new Chief Medical Officer (CMO), effective January 20, 2025. This transition follows the retirement of Dr. Leigh Hamby, who has dedicated over two decades to the organization. Dr. Master has been a formidable presence within the healthcare system, serving as the assistant CMO since 2021 and as CMO of Piedmont Mountainside Hospital since 2014.
Dr. Master’s leadership has not only been recognized in his secured position but also through impressive accomplishments during his tenure at Piedmont. Under his guidance, Piedmont Mountainside has achieved an astounding 19 consecutive A grades in patient safety ratings from the Leapfrog Group, marking the longest streak in Georgia. This impressive performance highlights his commitment to clinical excellence and patient care.
In addition to his accomplishments, Dr. Master led initiatives that resulted in a significant 50% reduction in unnecessary prolonged hospital stays. This achievement allowed Piedmont to effectively increase patient capacity, equivalent to managing an additional 150 beds—directly impacting the care and timely service provided to patients. His contributions to the Piedmont Healthcare Board since 2019 further reflect his deep involvement in the system’s operational strategy and quality improvement efforts.
Piedmont Healthcare President and CEO Kevin Brown emphasizes Dr. Master’s extensive experience, stating, "Dr. Master brings a wealth of clinical and health care leadership experience to the role. With over 25 years in the industry, he has established a strong foundation in enhancing patient care through innovative collaborations."
Dr. Master’s educational background is equally impressive. He earned his medical degree from Topiwala National Medical College in Mumbai, India, where he initially began his career in orthopedics and general surgery. Following his move to the United States, he pursued his residency in Internal Medicine at the University of Connecticut School of Medicine, ultimately becoming Chief Resident for an additional year.
Reflecting on the transition, Kevin Brown also acknowledged the significant contributions of the retiring Dr. Hamby. Brown remarked, "Dr. Hamby has been a key player in Piedmont’s transformation and continuous improvement over the years. His leadership during the COVID-19 pandemic was pivotal, as he established a command center to proactively address the challenges faced by our healthcare system."
Even in retirement, Dr. Hamby will continue to contribute to the organization as a senior performance improvement lead at the Piedmont Clinic, ensuring his legacy of leadership endures.
As Dr. Master prepares to step into his new role, there is optimism about the direction Piedmont Healthcare will take under his leadership. With a track record of excellence and a focus on quality care, stakeholders are hopeful for a continued commitment to patient safety and operational efficiency. Dr. Master’s vision for Piedmont is poised to uphold its reputation as a center of clinical excellence and community trust.
Overall, this leadership change marks a new chapter for Piedmont Healthcare, with Dr. Master at the helm willing to further elevate the standards of healthcare delivery and patient satisfaction.
