Aviat Networks Introduces Innovative WTM 4400 'Quad' for Enhanced Network Efficiency

Aviat Networks Unveils WTM 4400 'Quad' Model

Aviat Networks, Inc., a leader in wireless transport and access solutions, has recently made a groundbreaking announcement in the telecommunications industry with the launch of its new WTM 4400, also known as the 'Quad'. This innovative product redefines the standards for microwave transport solutions by integrating four independent microwave channels into a single outdoor radio unit, providing an unprecedented capacity to network operators.

Enhanced Capacity and Performance

The WTM 4400 stands out as the only solution of its kind currently on the market, supporting a high capacity of up to 5 Gbps in four channels of 112 MHz each (ETSI) or 3 Gbps in four channels of 80 MHz each (ANSI). This capability is achieved without the need for external combining, antenna mediation devices, or indoor units. The unit utilizes Aviat’s patented Layer 1 Link Aggregation (L1LA) algorithm to aggregate all traffic efficiently, ensuring seamless data flow for users.

Innovative Features for Resistance and Reliability

To maintain high-priority traffic during adverse weather conditions, the Quad incorporates Adaptive Dual Channel (A2C+) technology, which allows it to aggregate four channels using only two transceivers. This advancement significantly reduces hardware requirements compared to traditional methods that typically need one transceiver per channel. Moreover, during severe weather events, the Quad can revert to a two-channel operation while applying an automatic Power Boost of up to 7.5 dB, ensuring uninterrupted service for critical applications. As the weather conditions improve, the system automatically returns to full capacity.

Cost-Effective Solutions for Operators

The design of the WTM 4400 facilitates the combination of four channels onto a single antenna, enhancing system gain by up to 10 dB compared to other solutions in the market. This results in reduced antenna size by 50%, leading to lower shipping and installation costs, as well as decreased tower loading and lease fees. By optimizing specifications in this manner, network operators can see substantial year-on-year savings and the potential to deploy longer links without the need for larger antennas.

Flexible Software Management

One of the standout features of the WTM 4400 is its capability for remote software updates. Operators can initially deploy the Quad in a two-channel mode and later enable additional channels to double link capacity, all accomplished within minutes without the need for onsite hardware adjustments or tower climbs.

Operational Simplicity and Efficiency

The operational design of the WTM 4400 simplifies installation and maintenance. It requires only one box mounted directly to a standard microwave antenna, as opposed to competing solutions that may necessitate multiple outdoor radios and extensive configurations. Additionally, this unit promises up to a 50% reduction in power consumption, increases the mean time between failure (MTBF), and simplifies network management.

"The Quad delivers higher capacity and longer links at the lowest possible total cost of ownership," said Pete Smith, CEO of Aviat Networks. He emphasized that the WTM 4400 is ideal for operators looking to enhance their network capabilities while minimizing capital expenditures and operational costs.

Availability

Aviat Networks is currently accepting orders for the WTM 4400, with the first shipments expected to commence in early 2027. This product is set to revolutionize the way network capacities are upgraded effectively and efficiently.
