Pokémon Card Game 30th Anniversary Box Released with Surprising Market Trends

Pokémon Card Game 30th Anniversary Box Launch

On September 16, 2026, the Pokémon Card Game celebrated its 30th anniversary with the launch of the highly anticipated MEGA expansion pack, 30th CELEBRATION. This special product, which contains 30 packs and is priced at 7,200 yen, saw a surprising fluctuation in its initial market values. TCG Pro Co., Ltd., a company specializing in trading card services, gathered information from its lottery sales information site, Card Chusen Matome Toregeto, and revealed the buyback prices on launch day.

Initial Buyback Prices

On the morning of release, the collected buyback prices from nine stores ranged from 7,200 yen to 22,000 yen, with the median buyback price landing at 17,000 yen, which is 2.4 times the retail price. Notably, no stores reached the predicted price range of 30,000 to 50,000 yen, which was anticipated by 37.6% of the 1,278 surveyed readers. Only 25.4% guessed correctly, anticipating a buyback price between 10,000 and 30,000 yen.

The findings highlight a significant disparity between speculation and actual market performance. With the expectation being 30,000 yen or more from 74.6% of respondents, the real outcome of 10,000 to 30,000 yen fell noticeably short.

Market Disparity

The analysis of market data revealed that even on the same day and for the same product, buyback prices differed significantly by up to 3.1 times among various stores. The top five stores reported prices ranging from 17,000 yen to 22,000 yen, while the lowest offerings were at the retail price of 7,200 yen. This underscores the importance of comparing prices across different buyers before selling.

Additionally, the findings indicated two stores published buyback prices without shrink wrap, both listing at 14,000 yen. The price delta between products with and without shrink wrap can vary greatly, suggesting that condition significantly impacts value.

Reader Predictions vs. Reality

This survey marks TCG Pro's second analysis of expected versus actual buyback prices, following the earlier study on the One Piece Card
