Collaboration Between Exceed and Teikyo University

In an innovative move to enhance medical education, Exceed, a subsidiary of Taiyo Holdings, has partnered with Teikyo University to explore immersive learning methodologies through XR (Extended Reality) and AI (Artificial Intelligence). This collaboration, formally established under a joint research agreement, aims to develop comprehensive 3D anatomy education and immersive simulation training for Teikyo University's Fukuoka School of Medical Technology.

The Vision of Teikyo University

Teikyo University’s Fukuoka School of Medical Technology is dedicated to cultivating healthcare professionals with advanced skills who can thrive in the forefront of medical services. Situated in Omuta, Fukuoka, the school encompasses six disciplines, including Physiotherapy, Occupational Therapy, Nursing, Medical Imaging, and Emergency Medical Services. A key feature of the program is the cross-disciplinary approach, allowing students from various specialties to engage in shared learning experiences. This model is essential for fostering teamwork, an increasingly vital component of modern healthcare.

The collaboration originated from an initiative proposed by faculty at Teikyo University, looking to leverage Exceed's XR and AI expertise to enhance medical education. Over the past year, the two entities have engaged in extensive discussions and practical implementations, focusing on educational applications. They plan to continually refine the project by integrating the rapidly evolving capabilities of AI.

Collaborative Goals and Future Directions

The primary objective of this joint research is to address the lack of hands-on learning opportunities, such as dissection practice and Objective Structured Clinical Examinations (OSCE), at Teikyo University’s Fukuoka campus, which does not have an affiliated hospital. Professor Yasuhiro Higai, director of the Simulation Education and Research Center at the Fukuoka campus, expressed that the collaboration with Exceed, alongside their solid understanding of XR and AI technologies, is a decisive factor in the successful execution of this project. Their close cooperation aligns well with the locale, which will facilitate a productive partnership.

Kenichi Kobayashi, President of Exceed, expressed pride in the partnership, noting that their experience in contract development and dedication to creating new value in XR and AI fields make this collaboration particularly exciting. This research project marks the convergence of Exceed's technological advancements and the educational insights provided by Teikyo University, setting a foundation for tangible outcomes beneficial for education.

Current Developments in XR and AI Education

Immersive Simulation Training

The joint initiative aims to create an educational environment where students can engage with the clinical processes of patient observation, communication, and clinical judgment. By utilizing XR technology and AI, the project seeks to develop a simulation education model that allows learners to adapt their responses to various clinical situations actively. A demonstration was held in March 2026 during a Faculty Development seminar at Teikyo University, showcasing the potential for improving instructional effectiveness among university faculty.
