Columbus Marathon Breaks Fundraising Record in 2025
The 2025 Columbus Marathon, in an inspiring display of community spirit, has set a remarkable fundraising benchmark, raising over $1.4 million for the Nationwide Children's Hospital. This incredible amount includes a generous $200,000 donation from the Marathon Board of Trustees and pushes the total donations since the partnership's inception in 2012 to more than $15 million.
The marathon, which features both a full 26.2-mile race and a 13.1-mile half-marathon, has become known not only as a challenging athletic event but also as a vital source of support for the local community. The partnership between the Columbus Marathon, Nationwide Children's Hospital, and Nationwide has been a beacon of philanthropy and health support for the past 14 years and has now been extended for an additional two years.
Eric Motter, Chairman of the Columbus Marathon Board of Trustees, emphasized the collective nature of this achievement, stating, "No single entity or supporter makes this Partnership successful – it is a collective effort involving thousands of people and organizations." He credited the unwavering support from Nationwide as instrumental in the success of this initiative.
Chad Jester, Vice President of Corporate Citizenship at Nationwide, echoed these sentiments, highlighting the significance of the funds raised. “These funds will ensure that Nationwide Children's can continue providing world-class care to every child in need, regardless of their family's financial situation. We are grateful for the enduring support and look forward to our continued partnership,” Jester stated.
Since the inception of this partnership, the Columbus Marathon has consistently exceeded its fundraising goals. The total funds raised have been crucial in helping the hospital provide advanced medical services to countless children and their families. Nationwide Children's Hospital is recognized nationally for its comprehensive care, focusing on pediatric population health and health equity.
In addition to the remarkable monetary contributions, the Columbus Marathon has also introduced a special initiative for the upcoming race, which is scheduled for October 2026. The marathon has revealed “Marathon Mile Champions” — inspiring young patients from Nationwide Children's Hospital who are celebrated along the race route. These champions include children with serious health conditions, and their inclusion highlights the emotional impact of the race and the importance of community support in overcoming challenges.
Darris Blackford, the Race Director, referred to the event as “America's Most Meaningful Race,” stating that the presence of the Marathon Mile Champions reinforces the purpose and significance behind the event. With a strong sales record for registration in prior years, the anticipation for the 2026 marathon is already building, encouraging even more participants to join in the cause of giving back.
John Smith, the father of a Marathon Mile Champion, shared his family's story and the incredible support they received from Nationwide Children's Hospital. “The care and dedication we received have made all the difference in our lives. We’re so grateful for the marathon community and all the donations that continue to impact lives like ours positively.”
With the official registration now open for the upcoming marathon, excitement is palpable. Participants and sponsors alike are looking forward to another year of uniting for a noble cause.
