Student Artists Shine at Design Festa vol.63
From May 23 to 24, 2026, the Tokyo Design Technology Center (TECH.C.) made its mark at Design Festa vol.63, Asia's largest art event held at Tokyo Big Sight. This exhibit was part of a class project titled ‘Design Project,’ providing students with a platform to showcase their creative work.
Design Festa is renowned for welcoming both professional and amateur artists, featuring around 6,500 booths and attracting approximately 140,000 visitors over two days. It is a celebration of creativity where anyone can participate as long as they present original artwork. TECH.C. emphasizes not just the completion of a piece but the delivery of that piece to society, shaping students into well-rounded creators.
During this prestigious event, students exhibited and sold their original illustrations and merchandise, honing essential skills as they interacted directly with attendees. Engaging with visitors allowed students to listen to feedback and address inquiries about their work, all of which contributed to a deeper understanding of achieving resonant design.
The Creative Experience of Selling
The students took charge of their booths, conveying the charm of their creations while marketing them to potential buyers. This hands-on experience taught them how to communicate their artistic value effectively. They learned:
- - How to create designs that connect with their audience.
- - The art of promoting their products' appeal.
- - Effective communication techniques to translate their artistic value.
This practical exposure provided insights that went beyond the traditional classroom setting. Not only did they revel in the joy of making sales, but they also welcomed constructive feedback that helped them assess their work from a fresh perspective.
Peer Learning Across Grades
On the day of the festival, first-year students visited to observe their senior peers' booths. Witnessing the successful presentation and sales process inspired them, sparking conversations about future participation: “I want to showcase my work next year,” and “I want to enhance my creative skills.” Such interactions reflect TECH.C.'s unique approach, where inter-grade learning fosters motivation and connects students through practical outreach with businesses and industries.
Tech-C. and Practical Education Objectives
TECH.C.'s commitment to practical education involves industry projects, academic partnerships, and participation in events like Design Festa.
