NTT Precision Medicine Analyzes the Correlation of Genetic Data with Health Outcomes

NTT Precision Medicine Analyzes Health Data

NTT Precision Medicine Corp., based in Chiyoda, Tokyo, has established a comprehensive dataset of pseudonymized health, genetic, and claims information. This initiative aims to analyze the relations between disease incidence and healthcare services, collaborating with the NTT Health Insurance Association as part of its health promotion and collaborative health programs.

Background

The NTT Group, with approximately 100,000 employees, has compiled pseudonymized data derived from genetic information, health checkup results, and medical claims. By analyzing this data without identifying individuals, NTT aims to evaluate the effectiveness and efficiency of health promotion strategies and to develop novel healthcare services. This effort not only benefits the employees but also contributes to the broader aim of improving health management in the organization.

Design of the Statistical Analysis

This recent analysis utilized data from about 90,000 individuals whose genetic and health checkup information could be cross-referenced, integrating approximately five years of medical claims for the study. The focus of the analysis centered on prevalent lifestyle-related diseases such as type 2 diabetes and hypertension, alongside malignant neoplasms. Participants were categorized into high-risk groups identified by genetic tests and those with regular results to analyze cumulative incidence rates. Additionally, a Cox model was employed to evaluate the interaction between genetic risk, health checkup data (BMI), and self-reported information such as smoking and drinking habits.

Results of the Statistical Analysis

The analysis revealed a noticeable trend of increasing cumulative incidence rates within high-risk groups, particularly related to lifestyle-related diseases. This highlights the potential for early intervention and targeted health promotion strategies to mitigate these risks.

Future Directions

Looking ahead, NTT Health Insurance Association plans to continue disseminating valuable information to its members to encourage ongoing behavioral changes leading to better health outcomes. Additionally, NTT aims to enhance its cohort data continuously while deepening its analytical capabilities to facilitate more profound health insights.

Through the establishment and utilization of the NTT cohort, the company is committed to creating innovative services in the medical and healthcare fields and contributing to advancements in medical science. It also offers customized pseudonymized data by integrating requested SNPs, health checkup information, and claims data, assisting in further research and service development in this vital area.
