CivAI Unveils a Revolutionary AI Voice Game
CivAI, a nonprofit organization dedicated to enhancing public understanding of artificial intelligence, has launched an exciting new initiative called
We Need to Talk. This AI voice game offers players a unique opportunity to engage with AI characters that respond in real-time, showcasing the remarkable capabilities of modern AI technology. With a focus on enlightening users about AI's potential impact on society, CivAI aims to bridge the knowledge gap and demystify this evolving field.
The Game Experience
We Need to Talk enables players to converse with AI characters, encouraging them to think critically and advocate their viewpoints in a dynamic environment. Lucas Hansen, co-founder of CivAI, explained, "Many people show indifference towards AI. Our goal is to create a compelling experience that reveals how AI can operate in emotional and interactive ways. People often overlook AI's potential because of its perceived simplicity. However, having a real conversation with an AI that can express emotions and engage in sophisticated discourse changes the game completely."
In
We Need to Talk, participants progress through various levels by engaging with AI characters and attempting to sway their opinions on different subjects. The game emphasizes the emotional spectrum of human interaction, as players experience characters that can laugh, cry, whisper, and even shout, thereby enhancing the realism of the interactions.
Diverse Paths and Scenarios
The game features two primary narrative paths:
Heart to Heart and
The Orion Project.
- - Heart to Heart takes players through a series of emotionally charged discussions with AI figures, such as comforting a sick friend or reconciling with a long-lost family member.
- - The Orion Project immerses players in a speculative world where an AI company is on the brink of creating superhuman intelligence. Here, users must navigate complex ethical dilemmas associated with advancing technology, such as a researcher deciding whether to disclose a troubling finding to their superiors.
"For AI development to be both safe and effective, numerous components must align correctly. Decision-making in this realm is delicate, and the right choice is not always apparent," Hansen emphasized. "Currently, we witness AI firms facing challenging safety decisions, and even tougher challenges lie ahead. Trust in these companies is crucial if we expect them to make responsible choices."
A Bigger Vision
We Need to Talk is the latest in a lineup of innovative demonstrations aimed at fostering public awareness. CivAI has previously introduced concepts like a deepfake sandbox and explorations of AI's influence on elections, highlighting the urgent need for informed dialogues on such matters.
In addition to public demonstrations, CivAI conducts private briefings for a wide range of groups, having successfully delivered over 100 sessions focused on various AI-related issues, including cybersecurity risks and elder fraud. These efforts aim to equip individuals and organizations with a better understanding of AI’s effects on society.
The interactive AI voice game is now available to the public at
