This summer, the Tokyo Toyorec Plaza is hosting a special seafood event titled 'Umaka Ichiba' from June 19. Designed to bring the vibrant experience of a fish market to the city, this pop-up BBQ allows visitors to select and grill fresh seafood right on-site.
The Unique Experience
'Umaka Ichiba' translates to 'Delicious Market,' a name inspired by the initials of three key ingredients:
uni (sea urchin),
maguro (tuna), and
kaki (oyster). The event aims to recreate the lively atmosphere of a seaside marketplace by offering patrons an exciting way to choose their seafood. Visitors can browse through a variety of fresh options, including naturally sourced tuna from Misaki, succulent oysters, and seasonal sea urchin, carefully curated by seafood professionals.
Upon entering, guests can select their desired items at the entrance, pay at the register, and then enjoy grilling at their table. This hands-on approach allows for a delightful DIY BBQ experience, bringing a unique sense of participation and excitement to dining.
To further enhance the atmosphere, the venue will be decorated with colorful banners and symbols portraying traditional fishing motifs. This setting truly immerses guests in a feel reminiscent of being at a bustling fish market.

An exciting feature of the opening event is the demonstration of grilling the head of a tuna—known as
