The 77th Tokyo Port Festival is set to take place on June 27 and 28, 2024, from 10 AM to 5 PM at the Tokyo International Cruise Terminal, located in Koto City, Tokyo. This annual event promises an exciting lineup of activities for visitors of all ages, all free of charge!
Rare Ship Openings
One of the festival's highlights is the unique opportunity to explore rare ships that are typically not open to the public. Attendees can board three significant vessels this year: the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force destroyer "Murakaze," the Japan Coast Guard survey ship "Hirayo," and the Tokyo Port Authority dredging vessel "Kairyuu." Entering these ships is guaranteed to be an exhilarating experience for all visitors.
Port Stage Performances
The festival features the Port Stage, where visitors can enjoy live performances from the Tokyo Fire Department and the Tokyo Customs musical bands. Various mascots representing governmental agencies will be introduced, and the Japan Sea Scouts will showcase semaphore signaling demonstrations. This part of the festival is designed to engage attendees from children to adults, fostering a deeper connection with Tokyo Port.
Explore and Discover Tokyo Port
At the PR booths set up by various government agencies, port organizations, and cruise companies, visitors can experience Tokyo Port in a hands-on way. Participants will have the chance to wear aspiring uniforms, engage in virtual ship steering experiences, and learn about the essential roles Tokyo Port plays in supporting the daily lives of residents. Outdoor demonstrations featuring valuable water supply and cleaning boats operating at the port will also be conducted.
Tokyo Port Cruise
For those eager to see the port from the water, a limited number of cruise rides will be available on a first-come, first-served basis. Experience the future of maritime transportation aboard Tokyo's first hydrogen fuel cell vessel, the "Tokyo Mirai Maru," as well as special services from water buses and water taxis. While cruising, visitors will receive insights into how hydrogen fuel cells power these ships, providing a unique perspective on Japan’s logistics and maritime industry.
Interactive Activities and More
The event offers an array of activities including the "Frozen Container Experience," where you can step inside refrigerated containers that transport food. Additionally, numerous food trucks will offer delicious meals perfectly suited for the festival atmosphere. Workshops featuring paper ship crafts and rope work provide fun educational experiences for everyone. A stamp rally will take place throughout the venue, with participants standing a chance to win original festival merchandise and luxurious lunch cruise prizes.
