Supporting the Employment and Empowerment of People with Disabilities through 'Magokoro Gachitama'

Supporting People with Disabilities through Gachitama

On July 2nd, a unique vending machine named 'Magokoro Gachitama' was launched in Saitama by Palsystem Saitama, located in Warabi City. This initiative aims to support the employment and empowerment of people with disabilities by offering handmade items created by users of the NPO Link Reliance, based in Kawaguchi City. The vending machine is situated at 'Pal Terrace' in Urawa, Saitama City, and features a range of small accessories including origami strap designs inspired by cranes and stars, reflecting Japan's rich cultural heritage.

A Contribution to Employment

This vending machine not only provides a platform for selling unique handicrafts but also addresses the broader issue of improving the labor wages for individuals with disabilities. Japan's B-type employment support facilities, like Link Reliance, often struggle with low average wages, which can be below 20,000 yen per month. By utilizing engaging locations for their vending machine, such as the bustling Urawa Racecourse and hospitals, Palsystem Saitama seeks to boost public understanding of the benefits of employing individuals with disabilities, thereby enhancing their social recognition and opportunities for work.

The items sold in the 'Magokoro Gachitama' are crafted using traditional origami techniques, showcasing the talents of those involved in Link Reliance's job support initiatives. This approach helps provide more job opportunities for users while minimizing personnel costs in the sales process.

Building Connections

The partnership between Palsystem Saitama and Link Reliance originated during participation in community events like the 'Welfare Market', which highlights various employment support facilities across the prefecture, and the Saitama Prefecture NPO Fund Grant Reporting Session. These engagements have proven fruitful, leading to the creation and installation of the Gachitama vending machine, which stands as a testament to collaborative efforts in supporting a more inclusive community.
