PUFsecurity Showcases PUFrt at OCP Global Summit
On October 12, at Microsoft's Caliptra Workshop, PUFsecurity, a subsidiary of eMemory Technology, was prominently featured on the opening day of the sold-out 2026 OCP Global Summit. This event attracted close to 400 participants, marking a significant moment in the intersection of AI and hardware security.
Kent Chuang, the Principal Security Architect at PUFsecurity, delivered a compelling presentation entitled "Caliptra Specification to Silicon Reality - a Turnkey Solution for Ecosystem Integrations." During his talk, he discussed how the PUFrt solution aids in transforming the open-source Caliptra specifications into silicon-ready products tailored for AI data centers.
In a noteworthy achievement, PUFrt has received OCP S.A.F.E. approval after an independent evaluation of its resilience against physical attacks, which could potentially jeopardize sensitive data stored in silicon. This certification not only enhances the credibility of PUFrt but also places it on the OCP Marketplace, underscoring its role in advancing hardware security tailored for cloud and AI infrastructure.
What is PUFrt?
PUFrt acts as the physical security anchor within the broader Caliptra architecture. Caliptra represents an open-source Root-of-Trust framework developed by the Open Compute Project (OCP) aimed at ensuring each chip in cloud environments possesses a verifiable identity and a secure boot mechanism. In an era where AI infrastructure is rapidly evolving, securing every chip with a reliable identity is critical. Caliptra is increasingly recognized as the benchmark for establishing this trust, with PUFrt providing the essential physical security elements—from key generation to production testing—across the entire supply chain, enabling widespread application in diverse ecosystems.
Incorporating eMemory's NeoPUF technology, PUFrt generates chip-specific Unique Device Secrets (UDS) and utilizes NeoFuse anti-fuse One-Time Programmable (OTP) memory for secure on-chip data storage. Furthermore, it includes an NIST SP 800-90B compliant entropy source, enhancing its reliability. PUFrt has seen successful integration into products leveraging Caliptra from ASPEED, a prominent manufacturer of server management chips, as well as security systems from key memory industry players.
OCP S.A.F.E. Scope 3 Approval
Achieving OCP S.A.F.E. Scope 3 Approval is an essential milestone for PUFrt, as it demonstrates its capabilities against various physical security threats, including fault injection and side-channel attacks. The OCP S.A.F.E. program offers an industry-standard protocol for comprehensive security assessments of hardware and software systems, alleviating the burden of repetitive security evaluations for customers. This form of validation is crucial since security functions in silicon roots of trust depend heavily on their ability to withstand physical attacks, thus protecting the cryptographic keys and device secrets crucial to advanced security functions.
Supporting the Future of AI
As the landscape of AI evolves and supports autonomous decision-making—termed Agentic AI—the security framework within data centers is shifting away from proprietary, closed models towards open-source architectures like Caliptra. PUFrt currently supports Caliptra silicon IP requirements across advanced process nodes 1.x and 2.x. By offering a "One-Stop-Shop Service," PUFsecurity provides chip design teams a fully integrated, pre-validated solution combining Caliptra and PUFrt. This service encompasses verification, certification assistance, and comprehensive engineering support, facilitating an expedited transition from development to mass production.
