Revamping Tradition: Indianapolis Home Show Redefines Centerpiece Home for 2027 Edition

A Historic Transformation at the Indianapolis Home Show 2027

The Indianapolis Home Show is set to make a groundbreaking change for its 2027 edition, marking the first time in over a century that the focus will shift from new home construction to the excitement of remodeling. This upcoming show will center its attention on a transformed 1960s ranch home, showcasing the possibilities that come with renovation rather than moving. As many homeowners grapple with the decision of whether to move or remodel—especially as nearly half of the houses in the U.S. approach or exceed 50 years old—the Home Show promises to resonate with contemporary societal trends and homeowner needs.

Presented by NARI Central Indiana, the new centerpiece will be an impressive 1,900-square-foot ranch that will undergo an extensive makeover inside Exposition Hall at the Indiana State Fairgrounds, ultimately expanding to a spacious 2,600 square feet. This reimagined home will not only provide visitors with a glimpse into modern living but also highlight the advantages of remodeling—an increasingly attractive option with more than $11 trillion in tappable home equity available nationwide.

John Babcock, the President of NARI Central Indiana, emphasized the growing necessity for such transformations: "With nearly half of America's homes approaching or exceeding 50 years old, the need for remodeling has never been more relevant. This Centerpiece Home will demonstrate how homeowners can transform an older property into a space that meets today's needs without giving up the home and neighborhood they love."

In addition to addressing the essential need for updated living spaces, the design will reflect an increasing interest in one-story homes. Convenience, accessibility, and flexibility are characteristics that are appealing not only to older homeowners but to families of all ages, making the reimagined ranch an ideal model for various demographics.

The project is a collaborative effort from over 30 NARI members and local companies, showcasing their collective expertise in design, construction, financing, and home improvements. Attendees will have the chance to explore an array of remodeling ideas, from kitchen and bathroom updates to additions and phased renovations aimed at enhancing comfort and long-term value.

Construction is scheduled to commence in late December 2026, with the completed home welcoming tours during the event from January 15-24, 2027. This innovative Centerpiece Home will serve as a source of practical inspiration for visitors, along with access to professional resources that can assist them in executing similar renovation projects in their own homes.

The Indianapolis Home Show is not just a local tradition; it holds the title of the oldest home show in North America, attracting thousands of visitors each year. With an impressive lineup of exhibitors, the show features the latest in decorations, landscaping options, construction, and remodeling ideas. As it enters its 105th year, attendees can look forward to engaging with home and décor experts, exploring the newest home products on the market, and partaking in the rich history of this remarkable event.
