New Initiative by College Promise to Support Student Fathers

On April 7, 2025, College Promise, an organization dedicated to promoting educational and economic opportunities for students, announced a significant new initiative. This strategic plan aims specifically at supporting student fathers across six states—California, Illinois, Michigan, Minnesota, Oregon, and Texas. Partnering with existing Promise programs, this multi-state collaboration intends to analyze current training programs, credentialing opportunities, and support systems. The goal is to produce viable insights that can help students secure high-quality jobs, offering them the means to establish prosperous futures for themselves and their families.

A crucial aspect of the initiative is its focus on evidence-based recommendations. The participating states were chosen because they all have established legislative mandates to collect and analyze data regarding the needs of student parents. Cloud stated, "Our goal is to develop findings and recommendations that can help states implement evidence-based best practices and make strategic investments in young men that will ultimately benefit everyone."

Following the pilot project, College Promise plans to expand its initiative by collaborating with other Promise programs, including 38 statewide initiatives and 450 national programs aimed at increasing access to education and workforce training for all students. This broader effort aligns seamlessly with College Promise's overarching mission to foster economic opportunity and educational access across the United States.

College Promise has developed a robust network since its inception in 2015, growing to encompass over 450 Promise programs across all 50 states and more than 1,700 educational institutions. This important work includes providing financial support such as scholarship programs that cover tuition costs and essential resources aimed at ensuring students can successfully navigate their educational and career paths.
