The commendation aims to recognize the efforts of students and organizations fostering motivation through the Kanji proficiency tests. Every year, exceptional candidates and organizations are selected for this notable recognition.

Growing Interest in Certification

In recent years, acquiring certifications or taking proficiency tests has become a “familiar challenge” for children, allowing them to realize and build confidence in their learning outcomes. A study conducted by Meiko Gijuku involving the parents of 880 elementary and junior high school students revealed that 36% of these children had obtained some form of certification.

In response to this trend, Meiko Gijuku has launched various preparatory classes aimed at supporting students in their challenges, offering guidance for tests such as the Eiken and Kanji proficiency exams. Some of the centers are also registered as preliminary test sites for the Kanji proficiency exam, providing a convenient and familiar environment for students to achieve their certification goals.

Commitment to Student Development

At Meiko Gijuku, we are committed to creating an environment that nurtures self-esteem and a desire to learn through the pursuit of certifications. We view obtaining qualifications not just as a challenge but as a pivotal milestone in personal growth, continuing to support students in their educational journey towards a bright future.

Insights from Meiko Gijuku's Education Department

According to the Education Department at Meiko Gijuku, the Kanji proficiency test has been administered as a training site since 2000. Many students opt for their familiar classrooms as the venue for their first major testing experience. The path to passing the Kanji proficiency involves consistent practice in reading, writing, radicals, and antonyms, which can be effectively tailored through individualized guidance. For example, repetitive exercises for reading and writing might be assigned as homework, while exercises focused on antonyms or synonyms could be tackled during lessons, effectively blending various study approaches.

Fostering a habit of consistent study and a goal-oriented mindset is crucial in promoting independent learning among students. Moving forward, we will continue to encourage the belief that “if you try, you can succeed.”

About the Parent Survey

The survey indicated that 36% of children in elementary and junior high school had already taken proficiency tests and achieved certification. Additionally, 6.8% had taken tests but did not succeed, and 14.2% had not obtained a certification yet are planning to pursue them.
