Midea Champions Sustainable Innovation at IFA 2026

Midea, a global leader in air conditioning technology, made waves at the IFA 2026 trade show by showcasing its new series of sustainable heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) solutions. Emphasizing their commitment to a "green vision and blue future", the company presented innovative ways to utilize R290 refrigerant, which stands out due to its minimal global warming potential (GWP) and significantly low CO₂ emissions.

Advancements in R290 Technology

For the last 16 years, Midea has been at the forefront of manufacturing air conditioners that harness the power of natural refrigerant R290. This year, they have improved the performance and safety features of their compressors further. The R290 refrigerant is notable for having nearly zero CO₂ emissions and approximately 10% higher energy efficiency compared to conventional refrigerants. This dual role not only enhances functionality but also champions environmental responsibility.

During the exhibition, Midea's transparent display allowed visitors to observe the inner workings of their HVAC systems, illustrating how environmental accountability can coincide with high performance. Since 2018, Midea has successfully sold over 10 million R290 air conditioning units, contributing to a remarkable reduction in carbon emissions – an estimated 5.2 million tons. To put this in perspective, it equates to the carbon absorption capabilities of approximately 6.2 million acres of the Amazon rainforest.

Innovative Heating Solutions: The H-Pack

One groundbreaking product demonstrated at IFA 2026 is the H-Pack, a next-generation indoor heat pump developed by Midea's European R&D team. Its compact, indoor-only design eliminates the need for an outdoor unit, tackling common concerns such as external noise, installation space, and regulatory issues. The H-Pack's installation is simplified, making maintenance easier, and it includes remote diagnostics, which help technicians identify issues from afar, thus reducing service visits and maintenance costs. Remarkably, it supports both hybrid and fully electric heating modes, providing European homeowners with enhanced flexibility and energy efficiency.

The Versatile PortaSplit System

Alongside the H-Pack, Midea unveiled the PortaSplit system, showcased in a realistic domestic environment. This system is known for its easy installation, efficient operation, and quiet performance, allowing users to avoid expensive installation processes while ensuring a comfortable indoor atmosphere. The switch to R290 refrigerants for the PortaSplit is also set for 2027, reflecting further commitment to sustainability.

VitaBreeze: A New Age of Comfort

Midea's latest innovation, VitaBreeze, won the IFA 2026 Technology Innovation Award, recognizing its uniqueness in intelligent airflow management. Ralph Kobsik, the CEO of Midea Europe GmbH, accepted the award at the event. The VitaBreeze features 'AirGrid' technology that maps room layouts to control airflow visually via smartphone. Additionally, its presence detection feature allows airflow adjustments based on individual preferences, while wide-angle air diffusion ensures uniform comfort throughout the room.

Other standout features include the precise humidity control system, termed 'ClimaBalance', and the energy management system 'ECOMASTER 2.0', which optimizes energy consumption while maximizing comfort.

Powerful New Heating System: Raynor Pro

Midea also launched Raynor Pro, designed specifically for Nordic climates, capable of functioning in temperatures as low as -40°C while maintaining 100% heating capacity at -25°C. This model achieves an impressive A+++ energy efficiency rating for both heating and cooling. Its distinctive design earned the iF Design Award, reflecting Midea's commitment to aesthetic appeal alongside functionality.

MHELIOS Home Energy Management Solution

Completing the presentation, Midea introduced the MHELIOS energy management solution. Displayed in a typical home setting, this innovative system optimizes energy storage and consumption based on real-time electricity pricing, aimed at reducing utility costs and enhancing grid stability. Meeting the requirements under Germany's EnWG § 14a, MHELIOS integrates electric vehicle chargers, heat pumps, solar systems, and batteries, maximizing clean energy usage while ensuring home comfort.

Through advancements in sustainable refrigerants, intelligent heating and cooling solutions, and integrated energy management systems, Midea continues to demonstrate how technology can align with environmental responsibility while ensuring daily comfort.
