Exploring Future Education: A Symposium Initiative
In an era characterized by uncertainty and rapid globalization, the need for educational frameworks that foster curiosity and a deep understanding of our world is more crucial than ever. In light of this, Bunkyo Ward, in collaboration with the International Baccalaureate (IB) Organization, is set to host an insightful symposium aimed at discussing potential strategies and collaborations to enhance education for future generations.
Event Details
The symposium will take place on July 30, 2025, from 6 PM to 8 PM, with doors opening at 5 PM. The venue for this important event is the Bunkyo Civic Hall's main auditorium, located at 1-16-21 Kasuga, Bunkyo City, Tokyo.
Keynote Address
The event will kick off with a keynote speech by Olli-Pekka Heinonen, the President of the International Baccalaureate Organization. Heinonen's extensive experience in educational leadership positions him as a critical voice in discussions around modern educational practices and the IB Diploma Program.
Panel Discussion
A panel discussion will follow the keynote, focusing on the theme: “What Should Future Education Look Like? Leveraging the Strengths of Japanese Education.” This discussion will be facilitated by Professor Masakatsu Katsuno from the Graduate School of Education at the University of Tokyo. The panelists include:

- - Miki Kano, Lecturer at Keio University and Tokyo University of the Arts,
- - Sam Bamkin, Lecturer at the University of Tokyo Global Education Center,
