FIT Charity Run's Certification as a Non-Profit Organization
The FIT Charity Run, which was established in 2005, has officially transformed into a certified non-profit organization under the Tokyo Metropolitan Government. This marks a significant milestone for an initiative that has tirelessly raised funds for non-profit organizations facing financial challenges, particularly in the financial sector.
Originally organized by banks and securities firms in the Kanto region, the FIT Charity Run event has grown immensely since its inception. Each year, volunteers come together for this one-day event, which has attracted thousands of participants from both domestic and international financial sectors, showcasing a diverse range of support.
As of 2025, the FIT Charity Run will have amassed a total of over 1.1 billion yen, aiding more than 160 organizations in need across Japan. Remarkably, the organization has maintained strict cost management, ensuring that over 80% of the funds raised are directly allocated to supported entities. This achievement underscores the commitment of FIT to create a substantial impact through their charitable efforts.
Operations for the FIT Charity Run are driven by a committee of volunteers, consisting of employees from sponsor financial institutions. Over the course of several months leading up to the event, this dedicated team meticulously plans and prepares for the run. On the day of the event, around 400 volunteers take on various roles including operations, safety management, course guidance, and overall hospitality, enabling over 5,000 runners and walkers to participate.
Hikaru Horii, the chairwoman of FIT, expressed the necessity of obtaining non-profit status for the organization to build a stable foundation for its activities. “In just a few years, we have grown to include over 100 participating financial institutions. Major banks, securities firms, insurance companies, investment firms, and consulting companies across Japan share our philosophy,” she stated.
The decision to officially become a non-profit organization aims to enhance operational stability and increase social trust, ensuring that FIT can continue its charitable activities effectively for years to come.
In a motivating video message for the 2024 event, Tokyo Governor Yuriko Koike expressed her gratitude for FIT's past contributions and her hopes for its future impact. This significant endorsement encouraged FIT leaders to take their initiative to the next level. The image of the governor resonating on the giant screen of the National Stadium served as a motivational boost for all involved.
Going forward, FIT Charity Run plans to foster even deeper collaborations with its stakeholders, including partner institutions, sponsoring and participating companies, and supported organizations. This commitment aims to further develop the activities and outreach of the FIT Charity Run.
The next FIT Charity Run event is scheduled for January 17, 2027, at the National Stadium, promising to continue its legacy of support and community engagement.
