Celebrating the 90th Anniversary of Rakugo Master Takawa Danshi with Special Vinyl Release

A Special Commemorative Vinyl for Takawa Danshi's 90th Anniversary

FTF Inc., headquartered in Shibuya, Tokyo, is set to release a special commemorative analog record titled "Takawa Danshi 90" on March 15, 2026, under the newly launched label AOK Records. This release honors the 90th birthday of the legendary Rakugo master. Ahead of the general launch, the record will be available for early purchase on March 7 at a special event at Yomiuri Hall.

Capturing the Essence of Legendary Performances

This two-LP set uniquely captures selected performances of Danshi that have greatly influenced the Rakugo scene. The chosen works include "Inokori Sapeji" recorded in 2004 at Machida Citizen Hall and "Shibahama" from 2007 at Yomiuri Hall. Notably, these recordings are newly remastered specifically for vinyl, marking their first true analog release.

The selection process involved close collaboration with Danshi's estate and recording engineer, Toshiichi Kusayanagi, ensuring both the artistic quality and historical significance of each recording were thoroughly considered. The remastered audio provides an extraordinary listening experience, bringing to life not only Danshi's unique vocal nuances and timing but also the atmosphere of the live performances.

Particularly, the recording of "Shibahama" from December 18, 2007, is renowned in the Rakugo community. Danshi famously referred to this performance as a moment when "the muse descended upon him," a testament to its significance as one of his greatest performances later in life.
