Experience the Vibrant Culture of Africa at TUFS African Weeks 2025

Discovering the Wonders of Africa: TUFS African Weeks 2025

Tokyo University of Foreign Studies (TUFS) is set to host the African Weeks 2025 from June 1 to June 14, an exciting series of events led predominantly by students majoring in African Studies. Under the theme “Africa, Africolor!”, this initiative aims to shed light on the diverse and vibrant aspects of contemporary Africa, moving beyond the common stereotypes associated with the continent.

In Japan, perceptions of Africa often skew toward negative elements such as poverty and conflict. However, as Japan increasingly strengthens its ties with Africa, understanding the myriad dimensions of modern African life and culture becomes crucial. The students at TUFS have dedicated their studies to exploring African culture, encountering its numerous attractions and nuances, and are eager to bring these insights to a broader audience.

The African Weeks serves a dual purpose: to introduce the allure of modern Africa, which remains largely unknown in Japan, and to connect individuals interested in Africa with its rich cultural landscape. The continent is not just a place of challenges; it is teeming with life, culture, and natural beauty, and the events at TUFS will showcase this fascinating diversity.
