Canton Fair Strengthens Global Ties for Economic Development and Trade Expansion

On October 16, 2026, the signing ceremony for the 140th Canton Fair Global Cooperative Partners took place in Guangzhou, China. This event marked a significant milestone in promoting international business relationships, showcasing the commitment to fostering global economic development. The Director General of the China Foreign Trade Centre (CFTC), Zhu Yong, along with key figures such as Eugene Seroka, Executive Director of the Port of Los Angeles, and Ali El Abdallah, President of the Lebanese Chinese Business Association, addressed over 70 distinguished guests, emphasizing the importance of collaboration.

Zhu Yong outlined that the Global Cooperative Partners Program aligns with Premier Li Qiang's vision of embracing economic globalization and responding to the international community's call for collaborative development. She stated that this round of partnerships signifies a deeper network, enhanced matchmaking services, and more substantial levels of cooperation than ever before.

Eugene Seroka echoed these sentiments, describing the new agreement forged with the Canton Fair as a fresh start based on mutual trust, which not only boosts business growth but also cultivates collective progress. This partnership allows participants to collaborate more efficiently, integrating their capabilities and resources, which is essential in today's competitive global market.

Strengthening Global Partnerships for Shared Growth

The Canton Fair has signed memoranda of understanding (MOUs) with eight organizations during this session. Of these, six are new partners, which include the Benelux Chamber of Commerce in China, Joinco, the Palestinian Businessmen Association, Rawalpindi Chamber of Commerce & Industry (RCCI), the Polish-Chinese Chamber of Commerce, and the Port of Los Angeles. Additionally, the Canton Fair renewed its ties with two existing partners, the Lebanese Chinese Business Association and the China Information Culture Centre in Kenya.

These new partnerships span critical geographic areas—from a major North American port gateway to established European markets—encompassing a diverse mix of businesses, including shipping and logistics firms, business associations, and leading procurement companies. Currently, the Canton Fair collaborates with 240 organizations across 112 countries and regions, demonstrating its expansive reach and influence in international trade.

In his congratulatory letter to the Canton Fair, President Xi Jinping affirmed that China is keen to work alongside nations globally to uphold a multilateral trading system and expand opportunities for mutually beneficial economic and trade cooperation. Following this principle, the Canton Fair aims to go beyond mere commodity trading to foster joint brand-building, shared market development, and collaborative services.

The newly formed partnerships enhance the Canton Fair's status as a pivotal platform for international trade, showing the commitment to evolving alongside global market needs. Participants benefit from a robust range of services, improved matchmaking efforts, and the potential to access new audiences that can drive business success. The commitment to cooperation underscores the belief that simultaneous advancements in various partners will lead to sustainable economic growth.

For those wishing to attend the Canton Fair, pre-registration is encouraged to facilitate smooth participation and maximize opportunities to forge valuable connections. More information can be found at the Canton Fair's official website.

By continuously expanding its global partnership network, the Canton Fair proves its mandate to not only adapt to the evolving global landscape but also to lead the charge in creating a framework for sustainable and inclusive economic development through strong international ties.
