Discover the Unique Aesthetic of Mehlography Lab. at Calf Art Gallery Popup

Unique Launch of Mehlography Lab. at Calf Art Gallery

From May 16 to May 24, 2026, a remarkable pop-up event titled "STUDY00 meh Collection with Mid-Century MODERN" is being held at calif art gallery in Tokyo, marking the debut of the new lifestyle brand, "Mehlography Lab." Created by Rinma, a visual director known for her innovative perspective, this pop-up merges the realms of art, fashion, and interior design.

A Conceptual Experience

The pop-up, designed as a solo exhibition, transforms the space into a conceptual playground where art and design coalesce. Rinma draws from the subtle beauty of everyday life, crafting an atmosphere that invites interpretation and emotional response. Visitors can expect to be immersed in a space that feels both thoughtfully curated and comfortably familiar, perhaps akin to stepping into a personal sanctuary or a "secret base" where delightful surprises await.

At the heart of Mehlography Lab. is a philosophy that embraces the beauty of ambiguity. The brand’s name derives from the fusion of "Meh" (ambiguity) and "Photography" (record). It celebrates imperfections—much like film photography—with all its grain and blur, allowing visitors to engage with feelings that are difficult to articulate, urging them to appreciate moments of elusive beauty without the pressure of explaining why.

The Collection

During the event, attendees will have the opportunity to pre-order the debut collection, featuring unique designs that embody the brand's ethos. Apparel items include:
  • - Strange Print Tee: A vintage-inspired t-shirt showcasing an unclear yet familiar graphic, open to personal interpretation.
  • - Old Check Shirt: A classic checkered shirt reimagined with a vintage aesthetic.
  • - Denim Flipped Bag: An innovative tote bag with a reversible design, exposing its unconventional inner material.
  • - Form Track Pants: Simple in silhouette but with a unique line that reveals itself upon wear.
Additional limited edition items and original art posters designed by Rinma will also be available, encouraging attendees to take a piece of the experience home with them.

Special Features

As part of the pop-up, guests spending over 22,000 yen will receive an exclusive novelty item, a quirky high-end pouch that embodies the playful spirit of the brand. This limited-edition item is designed to bring a smile and will be available only during the event, while supplies last.

About the Venue

Calif art gallery is a thriving hub for street culture and innovative design, operated by the Japanese company Beads International. The gallery features an industrial aesthetic, using a former motorbike garage's high ceilings and open layout to create an inviting atmosphere for art installations and community gatherings.

The connection to Mid-Century MODERN, an adjacent interior shop that specializes in timeless furniture designed by notable figures such as Charles and Ray Eames, enhances the pop-up's environment, bridging contemporary culture with classic design principles.

Meet Rinma

As the brand director, Rinma curates a world that reflects her personal visual style through clothing, space, and experiences. Her approach is characterized by an appreciation for the emotional weight of ambiguity in aesthetic choices. With an impressive portfolio that includes social media creative direction and spatial production, Rinma's vision is not just to sell products but to foster an environment where visitors can connect with an essence that transcends mere merchandise.
