CITGO Celebrates Resilience and Community Engagement at the 129th Boston Marathon

CITGO Champions Resilience and Community at the Boston Marathon

On April 21, 2025, CITGO Petroleum Corporation will reaffirm its commitment to community and resilience by sponsoring a team at the 129th Boston Marathon, presented by Bank of America. This iconic event will see a team of dedicated athletes, representatives of various organizations, and first responders run through the historic streets of Boston.

CITGO's Role as the Official Fuel Sponsor

As the official fuel sponsor of the Boston Marathon, CITGO is proud to support a team composed of everyday heroes, including employees, branded marketers, educators, and first responders. This year’s theme, “Meet the Moment,” embodies the spirit of community that is essential to both the marathon and the people who participate in it. Chris Kiesling, CITGO's Assistant Vice President, Light Oils Operations and Marketing, emphasized the significance of this theme, stating, "Community and resilience define not only the race itself but also the individuals who run it. It’s an honor to sponsor a team that embodies this spirit."

Celebrating First Responders

Among the CITGO representation are firefighters Anna Pigman and Dustin Cooper from Asheville, North Carolina. They were selected to honor the first responders who provided support to communities affected by Hurricane Helene the previous fall. Their participation underscores the importance of giving back and recognizing those who serve in times of need.

Nonprofit Partnerships

Additionally, representatives from three Kenmore Square nonprofit organizations — Arts Resource Collaborative for Kids (ARCK), Fenway Alliance, and Fenway Cares — will join the CITGO team. These organizations will raise funds through their participation, and in a show of commitment, CITGO will match donations to these nonprofits up to $2,500. This initiative strengthens the bond between the marathon and the local community, showcasing the powerful impact of teamwork.

Exciting Events for Spectators

CITGO is not just supporting the runners; the company is also creating excitement around the marathon with three key events:
  • - Fueling Good Runway: A dedicated area for runners to pass through as they leave Athletes' Village in Hopkinton.
  • - One Mile to Go Block Party: Now in its second year, this family-friendly celebration in Kenmore Square invites the community to cheer on runners while enjoying the vibrant atmosphere below the iconic CITGO sign.
  • - CITGO Road to Boston Fun Zone: A unique youth activation area at Fan Fest where children and families can engage in hands-on activities, commemorating significant milestones along the marathon route.

Kiesling stated, "Whether it’s through the athletes we support, the community initiatives we champion, or the iconic CITGO sign guiding runners through Kenmore Square, CITGO is fueling the journey and the celebration that make the Boston Marathon so special."
