Understanding FFF Tokyo Demo Day

FFF Tokyo, which stands for Fabrication Factory Founding Tokyo, is a specialized incubation program focusing on prototyping across various disciplines such as design, product, and architecture. Supported through a partnership with Tokyo's startup development initiative, TOKYO SUTEAM, the event was expertly organized by Atakamata—a collaboration that included ICOMA and Keihin Electric Express Railway.

During this Demo Day, numerous projects that participated in the year-long incubation program had the opportunity to showcase their results. An array of judges with diverse backgrounds, including designers, entrepreneurs, and sales professionals, evaluated the pitches. The event took place at Tokyo Innovation Base, located in Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo.

What is PONKEY?

PONKEY is not just a musical instrument; it’s a fully interactive robot equipped with 16 uniquely designed solenoid keys. Each time a key is pressed, it lights up, produces sound, and physically pops up, providing a tactile musical experience. As a step sequencer drum machine or a digital synthesizer, PONKEY allows creativity to flow freely.

Moreover, when paired with its dedicated application, PONKEY transcends traditional musical instruments by enabling AI-driven music performances. This creates a unique interaction where both humans and AI can engage in non-verbal communication through the physical manipulation of the keys. As its motto suggests, "A musical robot for everyone: adults, children, and AI."

PONKEY was first unveiled to the global audience during the SXSW 2026 event in Austin, Texas, where it showcased its capabilities to enthusiasts and industry professionals alike. At the ICOMA 'ICOMA TOYBOX' booth within the Fairmont Hotel Manchester Ballroom, along with spontaneous performances in diverse venues throughout the city, PONKEY left a lasting impression on attendees.
