Midori Kadowaki's Remarkable Performance at the Tokyo 2025 Deaflympics
Tokyo Power Technology Corporation, known for its diverse operations primarily in the energy sector, proudly supports athletes with disabilities under its Diversity & Inclusion (D&I) initiative. The company firmly believes that fostering diverse perspectives and experiences can lead to the creation of new value. As part of this commitment, Tokyo Power Technology is actively involved in supporting athletes with hearing impairments, including competing in the ongoing Tokyo 2025 Deaflympics.
In a remarkable display of speed and determination, Midori Kadowaki represented Tokyo Power at the Deaflympics, competing in the 4×400 meters mixed relay. Despite fierce competition, she finished in an impressive 6th place with a time of 3 minutes and 54.52 seconds, which not only secured her a spot among the top competitors but also set a new Deaf Japanese record for the event.
Midori expressed her feelings after the race: "The level of competition worldwide was truly overwhelming, and I felt a sense of regret regarding my own performance. As the oldest member of the team, I wanted to support and lead my junior teammates, but I realized how much I was being backed by my teammates. Trusting in my training and my teammates allowed me to finish strong, and for that, I am grateful."
She added that her next focus would be on the women's 4×100 meters relay, aiming for a medal. "I plan to recover from today’s fatigue while preparing my training and conditioning. I appreciate all the ongoing support!" Midori’s mindset reflects the spirit of teamwork and resilience that Tokyo Power Technology instills in its athletes.
Tokyo Power Technology goes beyond mere financial support; it actively engages in initiatives that promote sports for people with disabilities. The company is committed to enhancing the understanding of sports for individuals with disabilities and championing the importance of a diverse work environment. As one of the official partners of the Japanese Deaf Athletic Association and the Japan Deaf Soccer Association, the company acknowledges the vital role of athletes in advocating for inclusion and respect for diversity.
As of now, the company proudly supports five Deaf athletes, including Midori Kadowaki, Tomo Nagai, and Hiroto Kitaya, with future stars like Ryoto Takizawa and Riko Toyama ready to join in 2026. Together, they not only strive for excellence in their respective sports but also represent Tokyo Power Technology at various events, sharing their dedication and values of resilience and diversity.
The company actively participates in setting up partnerships, including sponsorship for the Tokyo 2025 Deaflympics, to push forward its mission of supporting disabled athletes. Tokyo Power Technology's efforts are dedicated to creating a society where diverse abilities coexist and are celebrated. Their athletes serve as role models, inspiring both their peers and the wider community to work towards a more inclusive future.
