Leesa Sleep Introduces Eco-Friendly GreenFlex® Foam
In a groundbreaking move for the sleep industry, Leesa Sleep has launched its latest innovation—GreenFlex® Foam. This next-generation, plant-based foam is part of an initiative to reflect Leesa's commitment to environmental sustainability while ensuring quality sleep experiences for its customers.
What Is GreenFlex® Foam?
GreenFlex® Foam is made from renewable, plant-based polyols that significantly reduce the brand's reliance on traditional petroleum-based materials. This foam is sourced from non-competitive crops, which are cultivated on marginal lands. Unlike typical soy-based alternatives that utilize only around 14% of the raw oil and require complex chemical processes for production, GreenFlex maximizes efficiency by using approximately 45% of the oil extracted from plants, all without requiring additional chemical conversion.
Leesa's newest foam is produced exclusively in-house at the company’s 650,000-square-foot facility in Arizona, effectively eliminating transportation emissions associated with third-party foam suppliers. The production process has been certified by the USDA as a Biobased Product and verified by independent specialists to ensure its eco-friendliness.
Key Certifications
GreenFlex has garnered several significant certifications, including:
- - USDA Certified Biobased Product - with 26% renewable biological content verified by lab testing.
- - CertiPUR-US® - ensuring safe, non-toxic materials free from harmful substances.
- - GREENGUARD Gold - indicating low chemical emissions and safer air quality.
The foam boasts an open-cell structure, providing excellent airflow to maintain a cool sleeping environment. This feature also cushions the body, alleviating pressure points while ensuring the mattress retains its shape over time. GreenFlex is integrated into almost all of Leesa’s mattress lineup, except for the Oasis Chill Hybrid and Legend Hybrid models.
A Game-Changer in the Mattress Industry
Currently, most foam mattresses rely heavily on petroleum-based materials, which raises concerns about sustainability. GreenFlex comes as a solution that stands out in comfort and durability, significantly impacting the environment positively.
Jen Pressley, the Head of Leesa, remarked, "GreenFlex is proof that you don't have to choose between sleeping well and doing what's right for the planet." By meticulously controlling its entire supply chain and production processes, Leesa ensures that every step aligns with its sustainability goals.
Well-Established Reputation
Leesa has built a reputation for quality, earning various accolades over the years. The brand's Sapira Hybrid mattress was hailed as the Best Hybrid by Wirecutter (The New York Times) in 2025, and the Chill line has consistently ranked high for temperature regulation, making it a top choice for customers seeking cooling mattresses. Additionally, independent tests have certified that the Sapira Chill scores perfectly for back pressure relief, providing exceptional support for spinal alignment.
Commitment to Community and Sustainability
The launch of GreenFlex is part of a broader dedication to environmental sustainability and social impact. In 2024 alone, Leesa's foam production efforts resulted in a reduction of 3,429 metric tons of CO₂ due to eliminated shipping emissions and recycling operations, while also conserving 345,000 gallons of diesel fuel.
Furthermore, Leesa collaborates with organizations like CleanHub to tackle ocean-bound plastic issues in India and has donated over 43,000 mattresses to communities in need through partnerships with various nonprofits since 2015. The company also actively redistributes around two-thirds of all returned mattresses to local communities through its Sharetown recycling initiative.
Pricing and Availability
The new GreenFlex Foam is now available across the Leesa range, with initial prices starting at $669 for the Leesa Studio Queen model. For more information, check out
