CityUHK Celebrates Historic Success in QS Asia University Rankings 2027, Climbing to 4th Place
CityUHK Achieves Historic 4th Place in QS Asia University Rankings 2027
The City University of Hong Kong (CityUHK) has reached a remarkable milestone in the recently released QS Asia University Rankings 2027, soaring to a significant 4th position among a formidable pool of 1,725 institutions across Asia. This accomplishment marks a historic first, as CityUHK enters the top five of Asia’s universities, reflecting its steadfast commitment to academic excellence, innovative pedagogy, and global engagement.
In this latest ranking, CityUHK has not only demonstrated its quality education but also its leadership in various academic indicators. The university now stands proud as the 1st in Asia in three pivotal metrics: “Staff with PhD,” “International Faculty,” and “Outbound Exchange Students.” These rankings highlight the university's success in attracting highly qualified researchers, enhancing global mobility opportunities, and fostering a diverse academic environment.
Moreover, CityUHK achieved the top rank in Hong Kong for eight different indicators, further solidifying its status within the local academic landscape. The university's stellar performance in the areas of scholarly research is reflected in its rankings: 1st in Hong Kong for “Staff with PhD,” “Citations per Paper,” and “Papers per Faculty.” Such indicators are essential in measuring the impact of an institution's research output and the overall quality of education.
This year was particularly noteworthy for Hong Kong's higher education sector, as three universities, including CityUHK, were recognized among Asia's top five for the first time in history. This collective achievement serves to reinforce Hong Kong’s reputation as an international education hub, showcasing its commitment to providing high-caliber education.
The positive trajectory of CityUHK is also evident in the improved recognition for its “Academic Reputation” and “Employer Reputation,” which reflects the esteem held by academics and employers alike towards the university’s graduates and the research conducted within its facilities. Professor Chun-Sing Lee, the Acting President of CityUHK, expressed his enthusiasm for this achievement, stating, "CityUHK's rise to 4th in Asia, entering the top five for the first time, and ranking 2nd locally, is an encouraging achievement. This progress reflects the collective efforts of our academic community to pursue excellence in research and create an inspiring learning environment."
In alignment with its ambitious strategic goals, Professor Lee noted, "As a globally engaged institution rooted in Hong Kong, CityUHK will continue to advance interdisciplinary collaboration and broaden international scholarly exchange." This statement underscores the university's dedication to not only nurturing local talent but also attracting outstanding students and scholars from around the globe.
Additionally, the university has been recognized with two significant awards from QS: the “Research and Discovery Champions” award, which celebrates distinction in academic reputation, citation impact, and publication output, along with the “Learning Experience Champions” award that highlights the provision of high-quality learning environments facilitated by favorable faculty-student ratios and highly qualified staff.
CityUHK’s progressive journey resembles its standing in other global benchmarks as well. It has been recognized by Times Higher Education (THE) as the Most International University in the World for three consecutive years. Furthermore, CityUHK has achieved a top-100 status across all four major world university rankings: QS, THE, US News, and ShanghaiRanking. This consistently high standing exemplifies the institution's resolve to deepen research collaborations with leading global institutions and translate research findings into practical societal solutions.
As CityUHK commits to broadening its global networks and advancing with an interdisciplinary approach to education, it continues to solidify its role as a catalyst for higher education in Hong Kong and beyond, contributing significantly to the local and international academic landscape.
