In a remarkable celebration of both sport and artistry, the Entetsu Department Store is set to host a special exhibition known as the "Great Golden Exhibition" from July 8 to July 13, 2026. Attendees will be treated to the extraordinary sight of life-size golden statues depicting MLB superstar Shohei Ohtani, featuring both his batting and pitching personas.

A Collaboration in Artistry

This unique exhibition is a product of a collaboration between SGC Co., Ltd., a leading gold manufacturing and trading company based in Ginza, Tokyo, and the renowned athlete himself, Shohei Ohtani. Over the span of two years, meticulous craftsmanship has led to the creation of two stunning life-size figures—Ohtani the Batter and Ohtani the Pitcher.

• - Ohtani the Batter is crafted using 1,550 gold leaf sheets and stands at 1.9 meters tall (approximately 2.4 meters from the base to the tip of the bat).
• - Ohtani the Pitcher features 1,450 gold leaf sheets, reaching a height of about 1.7 meters.

A remarkable investment, these golden figures are priced at 50 million yen (about $500,000) each before tax, referring to Ohtani’s stunning achievements in the 2024 season when he recorded both 50 home runs and 50 stolen bases. Viewed collectively, the pair commands a staggering total price of 100 million yen (approximately $1 million).

Introducing the Ohtani Gold Collection

In addition to the magnificent statues, SGC will also unveil the "Shohei Ohtani Gold Collection." This includes commemorative medals made entirely of pure gold, weighing 100 grams each, featuring Ohtani in both batting and pitching forms.

• - Each medal, designed with a 5.4 cm diameter, will be sold for approximately 9,614,000 yen (around $96,000).

Moreover, the exhibition will feature a range of pure gold figurines. Models include:

As gold prices remain high, the Great Golden Exhibition promises to be an elegant affair, boasting over 1,000 unique gold items for display and sale. Visitors will encounter various treasures, including exquisite gold Buddhist implements, decorative plates, ceremonial ornaments, and more, representing the rich heritage of craftsmanship in Japan.

The exhibition will also offer visitors a unique opportunity to sell their old gold and jewelry pieces on-site, with complimentary assessments provided via X-ray analyzers.
