SHEIN Unveils Innovative Tools at Second Annual Tools Day Event to Enhance Supplier Manufacturing Efficiency

SHEIN's Innovative Tools Day Event

SHEIN, a global leader in online fashion retail, recently held its second annual Tools Day event at the Centre for Innovation in Garment Manufacturing (CIGM). This year’s event highlighted over 60 innovative sewing and garment production tools designed to enhance supplier manufacturing capabilities. Targeting pain points experienced by third-party suppliers, SHEIN introduced unique technologies aimed at reducing production time and improving garment quality and consistency.

One standout invention showcased was the Beaded Embroidery Seam Presser Foot. This tool represents a significant leap in technology, efficiently guiding the sewing needle between beads on embellished fabrics—common in evening and formal wear—while minimizing damage to both beads and fabric. This innovation is critical, as traditional methods often result in broken needles and costly delays, issues that many smaller manufacturers face when attempting to produce intricate garments such as wedding dresses or evening gowns.

The Tools Day also included a demonstration of the Bead Breaking Attachment, which automates the process of removing beads along seam lines. By combining both tools, suppliers have reported striking reductions in manual labor requirements—by up to 80%—allowing for more efficient production processes. Since their introduction in 2024, over 900 units of these tools have been deployed within SHEIN’s supply chain.

The event provided suppliers with not only a chance to see innovations firsthand but also to interact with them during live demonstrations. Participants engaged with the CIGM’s in-house team to better understand how these innovations can solve specific challenges and streamline operations.

Additionally, seven new tools were launched at this year's Tools Day, focusing on the complex processes associated with applying lace and webbing embellishments. Tools like the Adjustable Flatbed Webbing Puller and the Flatbed Pearl Diamond Tape Puller facilitate the precise alignment and feeding needed for these intricate design elements, thereby improving garment finishing and overall quality.

SHEIN's commitment to innovation is rooted in collaborative development—the tools are designed with direct input from suppliers, ensuring that they address real-world manufacturing challenges. Wang Feng, a seasoned supplier, expressed gratitude for SHEIN's responsive approach: "Whenever we face a technical issue, SHEIN's professional team tailors tools for us and provides thorough support."

Since launching CIGM in 2023, SHEIN has introduced over 170 unique tools and delivered nearly 6,000 units to suppliers. This substantial investment is aimed at empowering suppliers with greater agility in meeting evolving industry demands, thereby enhancing production precision and improving quality standards.

Beyond introducing tools, SHEIN’s CIGM also plays a significant role in building capabilities amongst suppliers. In 2024, the center provided 69 vocational training sessions, attended by over 1,200 participants from more than 1,000 supplier facilities. The training covered essential topics on garment technology and business operations, while 97 technical certification courses were offered, fostering skill development in quality inspection and assurance.

Reflecting on its ongoing initiatives, SHEIN is doubling its efforts to form valuable partnerships within the industry, such as those established with Donghua University and Transfar Chemicals. These collaborations focus on advancing textile innovation, including the development of a new recycled polyester solution for sustainable manufacturing and the establishment of a joint laboratory to explore new dyeing and finishing methods.

Through its innovative approach, SHEIN is not just enhancing supplier capabilities but also paving the way for a future where fashion manufacturing is efficient, responsive, and environmentally sustainable. With the integration of such advanced tools and ongoing training, SHEIN continues to lead the charge in creating a smarter and more accessible garment production landscape.
