Alta Langa DOCG: An Italian Sparkling Wine in New York City
For the first time, New York City will witness the introduction of
Alta Langa DOCG, Italy's pioneering traditional-method sparkling wine, also known as Metodo Classico. On
March 10, 2026, from 11:00 AM to 4:00 PM,
Eataly Downtown will host a
B2B walk-around tasting featuring
27 esteemed producers from Piedmont. This landmark event aims to bridge the gap between the meticulous craftsmanship of Northern Italy’s sparkling wine region and the American market.
A Rich Heritage of Tradition
Alta Langa DOCG's historic roots date back to the mid-19th century, making it a beacon of Italian winemaking heritage. Nestled in the scenic hills of southern
Piedmont, these sparkling wines are crafted predominantly from
Pinot Noir and
Chardonnay. Each bottle aged for a minimum of
30 months on the lees, resulting in exceptionally structured and elegant wines that exude remarkable aging potential.
The tasting event will be complemented by two educational seminars titled
“Alta Langa DOCG Long Heritage and Ancient Soils Shaping a Great Metodo Classico.” These sessions will delve into the historical significance of Alta Langa, the intricacies of its unique terroir, and what distinguishes its wines from others in the realm of traditional-method sparkling wines. The seminars will be led by the wine marketing expert
Juliana Colangelo and will feature a dynamic panel of representatives from the Consorzio and the participating wineries.
Unveiling Wine Distinction
As artisanal, terroir-driven wines gain international recognition, Alta Langa DOCG emerges as a lesser-known yet compelling option for oenophiles and trade professionals. Its commitment to vintage authenticity and long-term aging underscores its unique identity in a saturated market, catering to those who seek wines with a strong sense of place.
Giovanni Minetti, President of the Consorzio Alta Langa, emphasizes the significance of this event, stating, _“Bringing Alta Langa DOCG to New York for the first time is an important milestone for our denomination. This event allows us to share the history, the territory, and the collective work of our producers, showcasing Alta Langa as a true expression of Metodo Classico rooted in time and place.”_
