Philadelphia Cycling Classic: A Major Cycling Event Returns with Elite Competitors

Philadelphia Cycling Classic Returns in 2026

The Philadelphia Cycling Classic is making a grand comeback on August 30, 2026, after a ten-year hiatus. This iconic cycling event, sponsored by AmeriGas, is ready to host elite cyclists from across the globe again, marking one of the most prestigious one-day races in the sport.

With 32 teams confirmed for the competition, this year's race will showcase seven UCI WorldTour teams among the participants in both men's and women's races. Carlos Rogers, a partner in Race Street Partners and co-owner of the Philadelphia Cycling Classic, expressed enthusiasm over the event's return, stating, "In Philadelphia, sport is about energy, passion, and connection, and the Philadelphia Cycling Classic delivers all of that. We’re bringing the stadium to the streets, allowing fans to experience elite cycling up close."

The event upholds its tradition of equity, as it offers an equal prize purse of $75,000 each for the men's and women's races, setting a commendable standard for prize parity in professional cycling in the United States. Robin Morton, the race director and CEO of g4 Productions, articulated her excitement, stating, "This race has always held a special place in the sport and to see it return with such a strong international field speaks to both its legacy and its future."

The classic course stretches a challenging 14.4-mile circuit through Philadelphia, renowned for its steep climbs, rapid descents, and technical turns that demand both strategy and strength. It enables spectators ample chances to catch thrilling moments as the world’s top riders navigate the demanding course, starting from the Benjamin Franklin Parkway in the art museum district, progressing along the Schuylkill River, and tackling the notorious 17-percent-grade climb up the Manayunk Wall.

Before the main events, cycling enthusiasts of all levels can partake in the Philadelphia Cycling Classic Charity Ride. This allows participants to engage in the iconic course while raising funds for the American Association for Cancer Research. Registration and fundraising efforts can be accessed through the official event website.

Spectators can enjoy the two-day Fan Fest, offering an opportunity to engage with national and international vendors, savor food and drink, participate in family-friendly activities, and experience live entertainment, taking place on August 29 and 30.

The women's race kicks off at 8:30 a.m., covering 62 miles, with 18 teams from six countries involved, including two WorldTour teams and numerous domestic outfits. The men's race will follow at 12:30 p.m., extending 120 miles, featuring 14 teams, of which five are WorldTour representatives.

With the event's rich history dating back to 1985, the Philadelphia Cycling Classic has earned its reputation as a premier event among professional road races in North America. The race is a vibrant celebration of competition and community spirit, uniting dedicated athletes and enthusiastic fans from around the world. The commitment by AmeriGas as the title sponsor reinforces the event's relevance and impact on the local cycling culture, paving the way for an exciting future in elite cycling.

As the date approaches, anticipation builds for not just the return of the Philadelphia Cycling Classic, but for what promises to be an exhilarating display of athletic talent and community engagement. Join in the excitement and witness some of the best cyclists take on this historic course!
