UNO and the Sullivan Foundation's New Study Abroad Initiative

In a groundbreaking move to enhance the educational landscape, the Algernon Sydney Sullivan Foundation has recently formed a partnership with the University of New Orleans (UNO). This collaboration will bring an exciting new study abroad opportunity, allowing students to earn academic credits while exploring the beautiful landscapes of Austria. Starting from July 3 to August 7, 2026, the program will offer courses in Leadership for Impact and Entrepreneurship for Good, culminating in a Sullivan Certificate in Leadership & Entrepreneurship.

Program Highlights

Students who participate in this immersive experience will receive six U.S. credit hours. The curriculum emphasizes a values-driven approach to learning, encouraging students to develop competencies that will empower them as changemakers in their communities. Acceptance into this program requires a minimum GPA of 3.0 and is open to both UNO students and those from other universities within the Sullivan Network of Schools.

The study abroad model implemented here is an evolution of previous programs, which prioritized short-term, intensive learning experiences. In this program, the foundation seeks to blend a robust academic framework with substantial field experiences over an extended summer term. This new structure ensures that students not only gain theoretical insights but also practical skills applicable to real-world challenges.

Daily Schedule and Activities

The academic schedule is designed to maximize the learning experience while also allowing students to immerse themselves in the local culture. Classes will take place from Monday to Thursday, focusing on theory and hands-on workshops during late mornings. Afternoons and weekends are reserved for cultural excursions, providing students with ample opportunity to explore Austria’s rich heritage and breathtaking landscapes.

Housing will be provided in modern student residences, with weekday meals included in the program fees. Additionally, students can look forward to excursions that cover not just local landmarks but extend to other parts of Europe, thus offering a broad cultural perspective. While program fees cover accommodation and most meals, airfare and several weekend dinners will be the responsibility of the participants.

The application process is now open, inviting interested students to submit their transcripts and home-campus information forms. This information will aid in the seamless transfer of credits back to their home institutions.
