Zeta Phi Beta Sorority Pioneers Anti-Hazing Partnership with Hazing Prevention Network
Zeta Phi Beta Sorority Partners with Hazing Prevention Network
In a groundbreaking move, Zeta Phi Beta Sorority Incorporated, one of the largest women's service organizations in the United States, has officially entered into a partnership with the Hazing Prevention Network (HPN). This collaboration marks the first instance of any National Pan-Hellenic Council (NPHC) Sorority partnering with HPN, emphasizing a mutual commitment to eradicate hazing and promote safe practices among organizations and individuals alike.
The Hazing Prevention Network is renowned for its dedication to educating communities about the harmful effects of hazing, advocating for change, and providing engagement strategies to prevent such practices from ever taking place. By joining forces, Zeta Phi Beta aims to enhance its initiatives that already exist within the framework of protecting new members from potential hazing incidents.
Gina Merritt-Epps, Esq., the International First Vice President for Membership of Zeta Phi Beta, expressed her enthusiasm for this partnership, stating, “I am honored to elevate Zeta's anti-pledging and anti-hazing efforts and further demonstrate our commitment to a safe intake process for new members.”
This partnership aims to complement the sorority’s robust existing initiatives that include its Risk Management Certification program, Membership Intake Certification, and a comprehensive new member education system. One of the most significant aspects of this collaboration will be the introduction of an official curriculum and certification focused explicitly on anti-hazing measures.
Dr. Stacie NC Grant, the International President and CEO of Zeta Phi Beta, highlighted the importance of this partnership by stating, “I am proud of Zeta's trailblazing efforts to eradicate pledging and hazing.” She emphasized that the organization's programming, such as “Finer Women Don't Haze,” will play a vital role in setting the standard for accountability and proactive safety measures.
Founded in 1920 at Howard University in Washington, D.C., Zeta Phi Beta Sorority has consistently aimed to uplift communities and foster positive change through scholarship, service, sisterhood, and finer womanhood. The sorority’s commitment to these principles has propelled its members to create impactful philanthropic initiatives and educational programs that resonate across different communities.
The launch of the anti-hazing curriculum will be instrumental in further solidifying Zeta Phi Beta’s leadership role in establishing best practices aimed at the prevention of hazing within not only sororities but all student organizations. As part of their broader mission, the sorority recognizes the significance of safe and supportive environments for all members, particularly those joining new organizations.
The collaboration with HPN is expected to bring about innovative solutions that advocate for cultural change, ensuring that all individuals involved in organizations can thrive in a hazing-free atmosphere. By focusing on prevention, education, and community involvement, both Zeta Phi Beta and HPN are striving to create a safer future for all students and members of various organizations.
As Zeta Phi Beta continues to inspire and lead through meaningful actions, this partnership with the Hazing Prevention Network represents a crucial step in their ongoing efforts to ensure that “Finer Women Don’t Haze.” The sorority is committed to guiding other organizations toward adopting similar practices, ultimately fostering a more inclusive and safe community for all.
