Blockchain for Good Alliance Launches New Global Accelerator Initiative with UNDP
Blockchain for Good Alliance Launches Global Accelerator
On April 25, 2025, the Blockchain for Good Alliance (BGA) announced a monumental step in driving social impact through technology by launching a global accelerator and fund in collaboration with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and EMURGO Labs. This initiative is aimed at utilizing blockchain technology to create social impact solutions that align with the UN's Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
What is the SDG Blockchain Accelerator?
The SDG Blockchain Accelerator is an innovative global project designed to foster blockchain-based initiatives that can contribute to achieving the UN’s 17 SDGs. With a special focus on empowering UNDP staff and partners, the accelerator will provide essential knowledge, technological support, and mentorship needed to develop, pilot, and scale blockchain-based solutions that tackle various economic development challenges around the world.
Supported by a robust network of industry professionals and experts, the accelerator will operate annually with two cohorts, each lasting four months. The program aims to build capacities, develop solutions, and support the growth of blockchain ecosystems focused on the SDGs. Utilizing the Cardano infrastructure and the expertise of EMURGO Labs, the accelerator will work to deliver up to 40 tailored blockchain solutions.
Mission and Objectives
Glenn Tan, Managing Partner at BGA, remarked that for UNDP, blockchain represents more than just a technology; it is a transformative force capable of reshaping how humanity approaches its most pressing challenges. “This accelerator program is more than just an initiative; it is a call to action for innovators across the globe to harness blockchain’s potential for sustainable development,” said Teodor Petricevic, UNDP Accelerator Lead. This powerful collaboration seeks to leverage blockchain's transparency and efficiency to pave the way for groundbreaking solutions that could improve communities worldwide.
Funding and Support for Blockchain Projects
As part of this initiative, BGA actively seeks to fund and strategically support blockchain projects that align with the challenges posed by the 17 SDGs. With its formal expansion to Europe announced in January 2025, BGA achieved a significant milestone by joining the UNDP's Brussels Roundtable, aimed at exploring the intersection of emerging technologies and impactful entrepreneurship within the Western Balkans.
The roundtable featured 30 key delegates from various organizations, including the UNDP, the European Commission, and leading Web3 foundations such as the Ethereum Foundation and Cardano Foundation. With this global outreach, the BGA aims to foster strategic partnerships and engage in high-level policy discussions, advocating for solutions that will deliver real change through blockchain.
