The Miraculous Gaze: Japanese Women Photographers Exhibition Arrives in Japan!

The Miraculous Gaze: A Unique Exhibition Showcasing Japanese Women Photographers

The world tour phenomenon, The Miraculous Gaze: The Adventure of Japanese Women Photographers, is finally making its way to Japan! From July 4 to August 26, 2026, visitors can explore this monumental showcase at Hikarie Hall in Shibuya, featuring the works of 30 remarkable female photographers, including 26 from international exhibitions and four new additions: Tomoko Imanishi, Ai Iwane, Aya Fujioka, and Tomoko Yoneda.

The exhibition, hosted by The Chain Museum, is set to provide a fresh perspective on women in photography, capturing diverse themes such as memory, body, everyday life, and gender. This event will not only include immersive installations curated to fit Hikarie's expansive venue—featuring artists like Ai Iwane, Hiroko Komatsu, Yuki Tawada, and Yurie Nagashima—but will also engage visitors through participatory works like Tomoko Sawada's popular voting project OMIAI♡ and exclusive video projections by renowned artists Rinko Kawauchi and Mika Ninagawa.

Highlights of the Exhibition

1. A Gathering of Renowned Japanese Female Photographers: The exhibition will feature 30 prominent photographers, presenting their unique journeys and visions.
2. A Global Success: Following its debut at the Arles International Photography Festival, which attracted 140,000 visitors, the exhibition has expanded its reach with its highly anticipated entry into Japan.
3. A Festival of Art in Shibuya: This lively showcase aims to blend with the vibrant atmosphere of the Shibuya area, creating an interactive and celebratory experience.
