Innovative Online Summer Writing Course for Tokyo's Public Middle Schools

As students gear up for their future educational journeys, the Tokyo-based Benesse Writing School is poised to make significant waves this summer. With a remarkable 20-year history of guiding elementary school children in their writing skills, this institution is offering a specialized online intensive writing course aimed at preparing sixth graders for the entrance exams of public junior and senior high schools in Tokyo.

This unique course will commence in July and run through August 2025, conveniently fitting within the summer vacation schedule. Unlike the conventional exams held by private institutions, the admissions process for Tokyo's public middle school system assesses a holistic approach to student capabilities—examining creativity and interpersonal skills, rather than just academic prowess. The 'aptitude tests' include composition tasks where students are required to articulate their thoughts logically after reading a provided text. Thus, even proficient writers may require structured preparation tailored for these specific standards.

To address this need, the Benesse Writing School has developed a focused four-session curriculum that not only introduces students to past exam questions but also emphasizes recent testing trends with comprehensive explanations. Each session will challenge participants to tackle previous exam topics, allowing them to master the art of creating responses that not only earn high marks but are also less likely to incur penalties in grading.

In a personalized learning environment with class sizes capped at six students, the program promotes interactive dialogue between students and instructors. This setup enables students to articulate their ideas convincingly while learning to listen and integrate feedback from their peers, thereby deepening their understanding.

All classes will be conducted via live online sessions, ensuring a comfortable and safe learning experience from home, even amidst the summer heat. Students will receive effective instruction on both reading comprehension and essay writing, setting the stage for their success in the entrance exam.
