Tokyo's Terrifying Illumination Experience
In a captivating yet unsettling event, Earth Chemical Corporation showcased the “World's Most Disturbing Illumination” from June 20 to June 22 at the Tokyo Skytree Town Soramachi Plaza. This unique exhibition allowed visitors to confront the chilling reality of millions of dust mites lurking in homes, creatively replicated through an illumination display within a children’s bedroom-themed trailer. The event drew significant attention, with 2,193 participants experiencing the surprising prevalence and dangers of these tiny creatures.
Many attendees shared their astonishment, voicing thoughts like, “There are more dust mites than I expected!” and expressing genuine concern about their home cleanliness. This event effectively prompted essential discussions around dust mite management, highlighting the necessity for regular cleaning.
Background of the Unsettling Illumination
The event was supported by environmental allergist Dr. Shuji Shirai, head of the Environmental Allergy Research Team at the Tokyo Allergy and Respiratory Diseases Research Institute. He emphasized that countless individuals unknowingly suffer from dust mite allergies, and childhood living conditions significantly impact their allergic responses. Shockingly, a survey conducted by Earth Chemical revealed that around 70% of people are unaware of the average household dust mite count, estimated to be in the millions. Nearly 90% admitted they do not engage in regular dust mite management. To raise awareness about this hidden danger, the event was launched.

On the opening day, a media briefing took place, providing insights into dust mite management products and the event's purpose.
