Huawei ICT Competition 2024-2025 Global Final Concludes



The conclusion of the Huawei ICT Competition 2024-2025 Global Final marked a significant milestone in the realm of education and technology. Held in Shenzhen, China, this prestigious event, now in its ninth year, attracted a staggering participation of over 210,000 students and educators from more than 2,000 institutions across 100 countries and regions. Following a series of competitive national and regional rounds, 179 teams ultimately advanced to compete in the Global Final, showcasing their talents across various tracks, including Practice, Innovation, and Programming.

The competition aimed to inspire students to harness the potential of information and communication technology (ICT) to address real-world challenges. Through intense and rigorous assessments, awards were conferred upon 18 exceptional teams from nine countries, including China, Algeria, Brazil, the Philippines, Morocco, Nigeria, Serbia, Tanzania, and Singapore. Notably, the winners of the Grand Prizes in the Innovation Competition hailed from Bulacan State University (Philippines), Beijing University of Technology (China), Faculty of Technical Sciences from the University of Kragujevac (Serbia), and the Faculty of Sciences and Techniques of Errachidia-Moulay Ismail University (Morocco).

Within the Practice category, winners of the Network Track included teams from Shenzhen Institute of Information Technology (China), Instituto Federal do Tocantins (Brazil), Federal University of Technology Minna (Nigeria), and a collaborative team from Dar es Salaam Institute of Technology, University of Dar es Salaam, and University of Dodoma (Tanzania). Additionally, in the Practice Cloud Track, teams from iACADEMY (Philippines), University of Batna 2 and Higher National School of Computer Science Algiers (Algeria), Tianjin University of Technology and Education (China), and Singapore University of Social Sciences took home Grand Prizes. The computing track was similarly competitive, where Guilin University of Electronic Technology (China), Federal University of Technology Minna (Nigeria), University of Bejaia and Higher National School of Computer Science SBA (Algeria), and Cebu Institute of Technology - University (Philippines) were recognized.

The celebrated Grand Prize in the Programming Competition was claimed by a team from Shenzhen Polytechnic University (China). In addition to technical achievements, the competition also recognized contributions that transcended mere academic prowess. The coveted Women in Tech Award was bestowed upon four all-female teams from Brazil, Saudi Arabia, Germany, and Kenya. Moreover, a team from Ghana received the Green Development Award, while 18 distinguished instructors representing ten countries—China, Algeria, Bangladesh, Brazil, Egypt, Indonesia, Iraq, Nigeria, Hungary, and Türkiye—were honored with the Most Valuable Instructor Award for their commitment to ICT education.

Ritchie Peng, Director of the ICT Strategy and Business Development Department at Huawei, emphasized that innovation through competition fosters not only learning but also nurtures a generation of tech-savvy professionals. He highlighted the alignment of competition design with Huawei’s Intelligent World 2030 vision, advocating for the mastery of cloud computing, big data, and AI for societal advancement. The Innovation Competition promoted themes of green development and digital inclusion, urging participants to solve tangible issues in crucial sectors such as agriculture, healthcare, and education.

As the global landscape experiences accelerated digital transformation, the demand for skilled professionals in AI, big data, and cybersecurity has surged. The Huawei ICT Competition addresses this concern by featuring diverse tracks focused on Practice, Innovation, and Programming, coupled with initiatives fostering industry-academia collaborations and customized curriculum development. Such strategies are constructed with the intention of equipping students with skills that meet current industry demands, thereby ushering in the next generation of professionals capable of thriving in an increasingly sophisticated and digitalized world.

An integral part of this year’s competition was the AI Accelerating Education Transformation Summit, which examined AI’s pivotal role in reshaping educational practices. During this gathering, Huawei introduced the AI capability of the Huawei ICT Academy Intelligent Platform, streamlining interactions for educators and learners alike. This advancement signifies Huawei’s continuous commitment to educational digitalization and innovation, enhancing the overall learning experience.
